Our team is dedicated to transporting students safely to and from school, and we are seeking an experienced Diesel Diagnostic Technician to join our maintenance team.

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Diesel Diagnostic Technician to perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on our fleet of school buses. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diesel engine repair, electronic diagnostic tools, and preventative maintenance. This role is essential to keeping our buses running safely and efficiently for daily school transportation.

Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced diagnostics on diesel engines and electrical systems to identify and troubleshoot issues.
  • Conduct repairs and maintenance on school buses, including engine components, transmissions, fuel systems, and other critical parts.
  • Utilize electronic diagnostic tools and equipment to analyze and repair mechanical, electrical, and fuel system malfunctions.
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance to ensure optimal performance and safety of the fleet.
  • Document all work performed, including repairs, diagnostics, and maintenance logs.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and maintenance staff to coordinate and prioritize repair schedules.
  • Test and adjust systems for performance, safety, and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Assist with the training and mentoring of junior technicians as needed.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest diesel engine technology and repair techniques.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, diagnostics, and maintenance work performed.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic/technician, preferably in school bus or heavy-duty fleet maintenance.
  • Strong diagnostic skills with experience using OEM diagnostic software (e.g., Cummins Insite, Allison DOC, CAT ET, etc.).
  • ASE Certification in Diesel Engines, Electrical/Electronic Systems, and Medium/Heavy Truck Brakes preferred
  • Experience with air brakes, hydraulic brakes, and suspension systems
  • Knowledge of California Emissions Regulations and CARB compliance
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics
  • Proficiency with computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for tracking repairs and maintenance
  • Must possess own tools (minimum tool requirement)
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug and alcohol screening, and must be able to obtain a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License training is company sponsored)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in diesel mechanics is a plus
  • Valid Driver’s License or CDL to operate applicable company vehicles
  • Driving record must be acceptable to be added to the company’s insurance policy
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Technical School Certification in Diesel Mechanics or a related field
