DESCRIPTION OF POSITIONThe Automotive Mechanic, under the supervision of the Lead Mechanic, repairs school buses, powered machinery, and other mechanical equipment.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES- Diagnose and repair school buses, trucks, powered machinery, and other mechanical equipment. E¹ gasoline
- Make partial or major repairs to engines, transmissions, brakes, bodies, painted surfaces. E Use gas or electric welding equipment, lathes, drill presses, tune-up equipment, other hand or power tools as necessary. E
- Maintain Repair Order Records of time and materials used. E
- Oversee and instruct helpers in safe and proper maintenance procedures. E
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent, or the practical experience requirements for completion for the Apprenticeship or equivalent.
- Three years verified experience at the journeyman level in auto repair, or two years verified experience as a journeyman in the repair of heavy duty automotive equipment such as buses.
- Any additional requirements that might be set forth by the employer or by the State of California.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE of
- Must demonstrate knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of heavy duty automotive equipment through written examination by State Licensing Board.
- Keep informed of new developments and be able to apply them to work.
Diagnose vehicle trouble and repair.
Adjust engines and all related equipment
Safely and effectively use tools needed in maintenance and repair of automotive equipment.e capable of vigorous physical labor; supervise work of helpers
Estimate costs of repairs.
Order materials, keep records and make reports as required by employer and the State of California.
Work cooperatively with others
