Position: RECREATION LEADER

    E. Ryan Community Park
  • Ladera Linda Park

Initial interviews will be conducted on video with a follow-up department interview if applicable. A pool of qualified candidates will be established to fill future vacancies as they become available.

This is the entry-level classification in the Recreation Services series. Initially, employees work under close supervision while learning the City’s recreation programs, activities, facilities, and operational practices. As experience is gained, responsibilities increase and become more independent.

Recreation Leader staff are responsible for
:

  • Supporting and supervising assigned recreation activities and facilities
  • Assisting with community, recreational, or park programs
  • Providing a safe and welcoming environment for all participants
  • Performing related duties as required

As a Recreation Leader, you’ll play a key role in creating memorable experiences for our community by assisting park visitors, maintaining park sites, coordinating city events, and facilitating recreation programs and activities. The Recreation and Parks Department is responsible for managing and operating a comprehensive park system, administering services in the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve and coordinating numerous community activities and events. The Recreation and Parks Department oversees departmental administration, recreational facilities, programs and classes, special events, the REACH program serving the needs of the developmentally disabled community, support services, and open space management.

EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities may vary slightly from site to site, but generally fall within these functions.   • Monitors and ensures the safe use of program facilities, enforcing rules and ordinances as needed.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of recreational facilities, storage sites, and work areas; secures equipment and materials at the close of activities.
  • Conducts facility safety checks, opens and closes facilities, and collects entrance fees (if applicable).
  • Responds to patron inquiries and provides assistance as needed.
  • Assists with facility rentals, including setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and equipment and also with planning and executing events and programs
  • Uses facility reservation software to manage bookings and maintain databases.
  • Handles general customer service and administrative tasks, such as answering phones, greeting patrons, processing transactions, data entry, copying, and filing.
