NDDOT Starting Salary
  • Engineering Technician IV: $5,587 per month*
  • Engineering Technician III: $5,008 per month*
  • Engineering Technician II: $4,505 per month*
  • Engineering Technician I: $4,131 per month*

We are seeking a candidate with a passion for construction and engineering, who enjoys working outdoors and has a strong understanding of technology to fill our role as an engineering technician/construction technician! As our new team member, you will be responsible for conducting field inspections for all types of construction projects, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and contract documents. You’ll get to work with cutting‑edge equipment like Robotic Total Station GPS, drones, and use computer‑aided drafting software such as Micro Station to measure and calculate quantities and create reports and plan sheets for use on construction projects.

You’ll also get to perform tests on road and bridge building materials for all types of projects to ensure that they meet NDDOT specifications.

But that’s not all! You’ll have the opportunity to assist project engineers with checking and organizing project final records, as well as with district design work that requires the use of Micro Station. And don’t worry, we’ll make sure you have all the necessary training and support to excel in these tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for an Engineering Technician IV, you must have at least six years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. College‑level coursework and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Materials testing is preferred.

To be considered for an Engineering Technician III, you must have at least four years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. College‑level coursework and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Materials testing is preferred.

To be considered for an Engineering Technician II, you must have at least two years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. College‑level coursework and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Materials testing is preferred.

To be considered for an Engineering Technician I, you must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a basic understanding of the concepts needed for this type of work.

At any level, you’ll need to be able to work in all types of weather on a variety of uneven or slippery surfaces, have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry several items with a total weight of 50 pounds, and have a valid North Dakota Class D driver’s license in order to travel to project locations.

But most importantly, we’re looking for someone who is passionate about construction and engineering, has strong organizational and communication skills, and is proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
