NDDOT Starting Salary
  • Engineering Technician IV: $5,587 per month*
  • Engineering Technician III: $5,008 per month*
  • Engineering Technician II: $4,505 per month*
  • Engineering Technician I: $4,131 per month*

* We’re looking for someone with all types of knowledge and skill level related to Engineering Technology/Highway Construction skills to join our team! Salary is dependent on experience.

We are seeking a candidate with a passion for construction and engineering, who enjoys working outdoors and has a strong understanding of technology to fill our role as an engineering technician/construction technician!

Responsibilities

As our new team member, you will be responsible for conducting field inspections for all types of construction projects, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and contract documents. You’ll get to work with cutting‑edge equipment like Robotic Total Station GPS, drones, and use computer‑aided drafting software such as Micro Station to measure and calculate quantities and create reports and plan sheets for use on construction projects.

You’ll also perform tests on road and bridge building materials for all types of projects to ensure they meet NDDOT specifications.

You will also assist project engineers with checking and organizing project final records, as well as with district design work that requires the use of Micro Station. All necessary training and support will be provided.

We’re looking for someone with all types of knowledge and skill level to join our team!

Minimum Qualifications
  • Engineering Technician IV – at least 6 years of work experience related to the duties listed; college coursework or degree may substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Materials testing preferred.
  • Engineering Technician III – at least 4 years of work experience related to the duties listed; college coursework or degree may substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Materials testing preferred.
  • Engineering Technician II – at least 2 years of work experience related to the duties listed; college coursework or degree may substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Materials testing preferred.
  • Engineering Technician I – high school diploma or GED equivalent and a basic understanding of the concepts needed for this type of work.

At any level, you must be able to work in all types of weather on a variety of uneven or slippery surfaces, lift up to 50 pounds, carry several items with a total weight of 50 pounds, and have a valid North Dakota Class D driver’s license.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who is passionate about construction and engineering, has strong organizational and communication skills, and is proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
