The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is seeking a dedicated Engineering Technician/Construction Technician to conduct field inspections, perform material testing, and support project engineers with records and design work. The role requires working outdoors, handling equipment, and using software such as Micro Station and Microsoft Office.
Responsibilities- Conduct field inspections on construction projects, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Operate equipment including Robotic Total Station GPS, drones, and measuring tools; use Micro Station to calculate quantities and prepare reports and plan sheets.
- Perform tests on road and bridge materials to ensure they meet NDDOT specifications.
- Assist project engineers in checking and organizing final project records.
- Support district design work that involves Micro Station.
Engineering Technician IV: At least six years of related work experience (college coursework may substitute one year). Materials testing preferred.
Engineering Technician III: At least four years of related work experience (college coursework may substitute one year). Materials testing preferred.
Engineering Technician II: At least two years of related work experience (college coursework may substitute one year). Materials testing preferred.
Engineering Technician I: High school diploma or GED equivalent and basic understanding of required concepts.
At any level, candidates must be able to work in all weather conditions, on uneven or slippery surfaces, lift up to 50 pounds, and possess a valid North Dakota Class D driver’s license for travel to project locations.
Strong organizational and communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word), and a passion for construction and engineering are essential.
