Student Building Services Assistant

Valley City State University is seeking dependable, hardworking students to join the Facilities Services team as Student Building Services Assistants. This position supports campus building services operations and helps maintain a safe, healthy, and clean environment for the VCSU campus community.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform general cleaning in residence halls: hallways, kitchens, stairwells and lounges.
• Clean floors, wastebaskets, furniture, glass, doors, walls, and other surfaces.
• Remove trash, straighten furniture, and maintain orderly campus spaces.
• Assist with cleaning projects such as washing windows and walls; scrubbing, stripping, buffing, and waxing floors; extracting carpets; and pressure washing.
• Help maintain exterior entry areas by removing snow, litter, leaves, and other debris.
• Collect recyclables and maintain recycling containers in common areas.
• Assist with campus event setups, furniture moves, and related activities.
• Review and follow applicable safety procedures, documents, and equipment instructions.
• Report building, maintenance, and safety concerns to supervisors.
• Perform other building services or maintenance duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Must be enrolled as a full-time VCSU student during the period of employment.
• Must complete required paperwork with Career Services and the Facilities Services Office before beginning work.
• Ability to perform physical work, including bending, stooping, kneeling, moving furniture, and working on one's feet for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability or willingness to learn how to safely use custodial equipment, cleaning products, and miscellaneous chemicals.
• Ability to read labels, follow instructions, organize work efficiently, and exercise good judgment.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to safety.

Hours:

Monday through Friday between 7:00am - 4:00pm Flexible scheduling is available. Approximately 10–20 hours per week during the academic year.
