Teacher
The Chambers County Board of Education is seeking a qualified teacher. The following qualifications are required:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution.
- Certified by the State of Alabama in the appropriate area, subject, and/or grade level assigned.
- Meet highly qualified requirements for grade level, subject(s) assigned.
- Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. .
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
The job is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is supervised by the principal. The required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
- Knowledge of child development and especially of characteristics of students in the age group assigned.
- Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum.
- Knowledge of current educational research.
- Ability to use technology for communication, instruction, clerical tasks, data analysis, record keeping, research, and reporting related to performance responsibilities.
- Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles.
- Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents and others.
- Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness.
- Ability to assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze test results and prescribe actions for improvement.
- Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn.
- Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators, parents and the public.
The job goal is to provide an educational environment in which students will move toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and psychological growth and maturation in accordance with system philosophy, goals and objectives.
The performance responsibilities and essential functions include:
- Creating or selecting long-range plans based on a review of system and state curriculum priorities, student profiles and instructional priorities.
- Defining goals and objectives for long range instructional, departmental, grade level and daily lesson plans.
- Sequencing content and activities appropriately.
- Identifying specific intended learning outcomes which are challenging, meaningful and measurable.
- Revising plans based on student needs.
- Planning and preparing a variety of learning activities considering individual student's culture, learning styles, special needs and socio-economic background.
- Developing or selecting instructional activities which foster active involvement of students in the learning process.
- Planning and preparing lessons and instructional strategies which support the school improvement plan and the system mission.
- Selecting, developing, modifying and/or adapting materials and resources which support learning objectives and address students' varying learning styles, backgrounds and special needs.
- Establishing and maintaining a positive and safe learning environment in which students are actively engaged in the learning process.
- Maintaining a clean, attractive and organized learning environment.
- Maintaining academic focus by using a variety of motivational techniques.
- Establishing and using behavior management techniques which are appropriate and effective.
- Establishing routines and procedures and working with students on consistently following them.
- Creating a learning climate that is challenging yet non-threatening.
- Maintaining instructional momentum with smooth and efficient transitions from one activity to another.
- Establishing appropriate testing environment and ensuring test security.
- Establishing and maintaining efficient record keeping procedures.
- Organizing procedures, practices, materials, and routines for the effective use of instructional time and for the completion of administration activities.
- Instructing and supervising the work of student interns, volunteers and paraprofessionals when assigned.
- Enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.
- Developing and using assessment strategies (traditional and alternative) to assist the continuous development of learners.
- Interpreting and using data (including but not limited to standardized and other test results) for diagnosis, instructional planning and program evaluation.
- Using ongoing assessment to monitor student progress, to verify that learning is occurring and to adjust curriculum and instruction.
- Providing feedback to students about the appropriateness of responses and quality of work with a focus on improving student performance.
- Communicating, in understandable terms, individual student progress knowledgeably and responsibly to the student, parents and professional colleagues who need access to the information.
