A full-time Welding Instructor will provide instruction within both a lab and classroom setting, assist academic administrators with curriculum development, student advising, and program enrollment, and provide institutional support and community service, while fully supporting the College's mission and strategic plan initiatives. Instructors may teach at any of our campuses:
Valparaiso, Michigan City, or LaPorte, and instruct both traditional and dual enrolled students. This individual will partner with industry and K-12 school leaders to provide certifications for students.
- Full-time faculty are provided a 9-month academic contract with the option of an extended summer contract.
- A full-time faculty assignment comprises a teaching load of 14-16 credit hours per semester, and eight posted office hours/week for student engagement and advising.
- A full-time instructor must deliver classes in line with statewide curriculum guidelines offering certifications and/or learning outcomes that are embedded in some courses.
- This position requires faculty to maintain student records, attendance, grades, and other documentation as required by the chair and/or dean.
- An ideal candidate will be able to manage a classroom environment conducive to student learning and in adherence to federal, state, and college safety standards and practices, and use our Learning Management System (Ivy Learn-Canvas) to facilitate teaching, learning, assessment and communication.
- Faculty are also required to provide academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees.
- Faculty are expected to promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.
- Full-time instructors will have a schedule that is based on their course load, which may include morning, afternoon, or evening classes.
- The schedule may vary through the 9-month academic year and Summer terms due to course scheduling.
- Participation in annual commencement ceremony is mandatory for all full-time faculty and staff.
- $45, base salary per academic (9-month) year
- Additional Summer contracts and overload contracts are available. These are optional and available based on enrollment and staffing needs

A qualified full-time faculty member meets the education component of the School of Technology discipline standard through one of three routes:
- Possess all three of the below:
- An earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution in technology, engineering, engineering technology; or an earned baccalaureate or higher degree directly related to the program’s discipline
- And possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR)
- And two years of directly related work experience that is specifically linked to the competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR)
- Possess all three of the below:
- An earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution
- And possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR)
- And five years of directly related work experience that is specifically linked to the competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR)
