Midwest Center for Youth and Families (a subsidiary of UHS) has been in operation since 1997, serving youth across the country that are in need of psychiatric treatment for variety of mental health issues. The Midwest Center is a respected healthcare provider, fully accredited, 74-bed private, residential treatment facility with locations in Valparaiso and Kouts, IN.

Position SummaryThe Director of Performance Improvement/Risk Management has a broad responsibility to protect the Facility assets from loss. The Director of PI/RM is responsible for coordinating the loss control efforts and advising Management and Administration on all potential sources of loss and for making recommendations to minimize or eliminate exposure. The structure and functions of the risk management program are designed to comply with guidelines and standards of The Joint Commission, other regulatory agencies, and the UHS T.E.R.M. Program.
On-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for high-risk issues.
Promote, coordinate, and perform performance improvement activities within the Facility by assisting staff and employees in understanding the scope, objectives, and procedures of the Performance Improvement Plan, and in utilizing various reporting mechanisms. Supervises functions of Medical Records and Payroll.
As the privacy officer ensures the facility is following federal and state privacy and information security laws including HIPAA.
As the compliance officer ensures the organization promotes prevention, detection and resolution of instances of conduct that are inconsistent with the Code of Conduct, or which do not conform to federal and state laws and private payer health plan requirements.
Job Duties /Responsibilities- Implements and maintains referral system established by Corporate Risk Management for staff to report potential professional liability problems against the Midwest Center through sources not limited to medical records, administration, direct care staff, recipient rights, nursing, and performance improvement.
- Reviews issues referred to determine liability potentials.
- Implements and maintains Midwest Center incident reporting system in accordance with the UHS policy.
- Investigates and analyzes actual and potential risks in the facility. Assesses liability and probability of legal action in conjunction with the Corporate Risk Manager / Assistant Corporate Risk Manager.
- Works with Medical Records in retrieving and collecting data for the purpose of assessing problems.
- Leads administration team with regulatory surveys and audits.
- Supervises HIM/Training administrator and Payroll administrator
- Completes violation investigations including HIPAA and Compliance issues
- Conducts new hire and annual training on risk management, performance improvement, compliance, and privacy.
- Demonstrates clinical knowledge through delivery of plan for patient care throughout the Midwest Center. Leads and directs the departments and teams in meaningful performance improvement activities.
- Provides aggregate analysis of risk data and monthly trend analysis of incidents to committees and Assistant Corporate Risk Manager/Corporate Risk Manager.
