Maintenance Apprentice
Responsibilities
- Support the installation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of plant equipment, including corrugators, cranes, pumps, transmissions, and other rotating equipment.
- Assist with installing and aligning shafts and drive train components to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Perform component replacements and repairs on equipment such as upenders and similar machinery as directed.
- Replace fan bearings and remove and refit bearings on various types of equipment.
- Perform Stick or MIG welding on equipment and components as needed for repairs and maintenance.
- Interpret and work from blueprints and technical drawings to support installations and repairs.
- Operate fork trucks, hoists, and lifts on occasion to move materials and equipment safely.
- Follow all safety procedures and plant guidelines while working in and around heavy industrial machinery.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to complete assigned tasks efficiently and support continuous plant operations.
- Participate actively in the six-month training and crash course in mechanical maintenance to develop skills required for promotion to a full-time mechanic role.
Essential Skills
- Mechanical maintenance experience with heavy equipment, industrial machinery, manufacturing equipment, farm equipment, or similar mechanical systems.
- Hands-on experience or training in welding, including Stick welding and MIG welding.
- Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic systems, including identifying issues and supporting repairs.
- Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic systems and assist in resolving related equipment problems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Basic proficiency in operating fork trucks, hoists, and lifts or willingness to learn.
- High school diploma.
- Ability to work safely around rotating equipment, cranes, pumps, transmissions, and other heavy machinery.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in industrial, manufacturing, or heavy equipment mechanical maintenance is highly beneficial.
- Two-year technical degree, military experience, or community leadership experience such as fire service or law enforcement is considered a strong asset.
- TIG welding experience is a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to think quickly and solve problems in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfort working in a team-focused environment where individuals support each other's strengths and skills.
Job Type & Location
This is a permanent position based out of Valparaiso, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $60000.00/yr. Direct hire, day one with Pratt. Full benefits and insurance package.
Workplace Type
This is a fully onsite position in Valparaiso, IN.
