Incumbent serves as Maintenance Engineer for the Commissioners, responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs for County buildings.
DUTIES- Ensures proper working order of lights and ballasts in County buildings, including repairing/replacing fixtures and replacing light bulbs.
- Performs various plumbing repairs, including identifying problems and determining appropriate action, cleaning/clearing blocked drains, and ensuring proper working order of toilets and sinks.
- Assists in inspecting and maintaining furnace and air conditioning equipment, changing air supply filters as needed.
- Utilizes carpentry and electrical skills to perform general repairs on various items as needed, such as chairs, desks, and security locks.
- Inspects and monitors related contractual work, such as electrical and plumbing, to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards. Prepares and maintains various records, including maintenance and repairs completed.
- Discusses with supervisor, and orders parts and materials as authorized. Picks up and delivers supplies and equipment, as needed.
- Maintains clear parking lots by removing snow and dead tree limbs, and trims trees as needed.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED. Ability to obtain required certifications.
- Working knowledge of maintenance requirements for assigned areas, basic plumbing, electrical, welding and carpentry.
- Knowledge of applicable safety practices and procedures, ability to take proper precautions, and ability to operate a variety of power tools and equipment, including drills, power and chain saws, power drain cleaner, snow plow, drill press, table saw and welding torch.
- Physical ability to perform duties such as close and far vision, color perception, hearing, walking/standing for long periods, pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying objects weighing 25-50 pounds, crouching, bending, reaching, climbing ladders, handling/grasping objects.
- Ability to follow all county personnel policies and rules, and work alone with others in a team environment with minimum supervision.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and read and interpret technical manuals, instruments, gauges and dials.
- Effective communication with co-workers, vendors, contractors and other County employees, demonstrating sensitivity to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
- Occasional extended, weekend and/or evening hours.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and demonstrated safe driving record.
Incumbent performs moderately complex duties and frequently makes decisions restricted only by organization-wide policies. Incumbent refers to supervisor unusual or unprecedented situations, such as purchasing new equipment or repair supplies. Duties require moderate care and skill to prevent damage to tools and equipment and prevent injury to self and others.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPSIncumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, vendors, contractors and other County employees for the purpose of exchanging information, explaining and interpreting policies and procedures.
Incumbent reports directly to Maintenance Supervisor.
PHYSICAL EFFORTIncumbent’s duties involve close and far vision, color perception, hearing, walking/standing for long periods, pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying objects weighing 25-50 pounds, crouching/kneeling, bending, reaching, climbing ladders, handling/grasping objects.
WORKING CONDITIONSIncumbent performs duties indoors and outdoors and is frequently exposed to extreme hot/cold temperatures, wet/icy surroundings, potentially hazardous chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, dirt, moving parts and potentially violent/irate individuals. Incumbent occasionally works in confined areas and in high places, such as ladders or rooftops. Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others. Incumbent occasionally works extended, weekend and/or evening hours, and serves on 24‑hour call for emergencies.
