Role Description This is a full-time, on-site CDL A Truck Driver role based in Valparaiso, IN. The CDL A Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating company trucks to transport corrugated packaging and recycled materials between Pratt facilities, mills, and customer locations. Day-to-day activities include performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, following assigned routes and schedules, securing loads, and maintaining accurate delivery and pickup documentation.
The driver will adhere to all DOT regulations and company safety policies, communicate effectively with dispatch and warehouse teams, and promptly report any equipment or delivery issues. The role may involve local and regional routes, occasional overtime, and working in varying weather and traffic conditions while consistently representing Pratt Industries in a professional manner.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A license with a clean driving record and compliance with all DOT and state driving regulations.
- Demonstrated experience operating commercial trucks, including backing, docking, and maneuvering in tight spaces.
- Strong safety awareness, including conducting vehicle inspections, load securement, and adherence to company and regulatory safety standards.
- Ability to read and follow delivery manifests, route instructions, and basic transportation paperwork with attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with dispatch, shipping/receiving teams, and customers in a courteous, professional manner.
- Physical ability to sit for extended periods, climb in and out of the cab, and handle occasional loading/unloading or pallet jack use as required.
- Reliable work habits, punctuality, and the ability to work a consistent full-time schedule with possible overtime or weekend assignments.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; prior experience in manufacturing, recycling, or packaging transport is a plus.
