Summary
This is an Archeological Technician Seasonal Position at Ozark National Scenic Riverways. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is October–March, though dates may vary due to weather, project needs, or funding. Anticipated entry on duty:
October 2026. The position remains open until 07/20/2026, whichever comes first, with consideration for the first 50 applicants or until the closing date.
The technician performs field and office work largely independently, carrying out record searches, document research, site inventories, test excavations, limited data recovery, laboratory analysis, data synthesis, and technical reporting.
Responsibilities include:
coordinating sample recovery and preparation for dating laboratories; labeling, packaging, and curating artifacts; maintaining databases, maps, forms, and files; managing field equipment and supplies; and entering artifact and project data into automated systems and archival records.
Applicants must submit legible transcripts from an accredited institution detailing credit hours, course level, major(s), and GPA or class ranking. Transcripts need not be official unless requested upon selection. For foreign education, credentials must be evaluated by a recognized organization and deemed equivalent to a U.S. accredited program.
RequirementsU.S. citizenship is required. Appointment is subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Male applicants must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirements. The position may require participation in a Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program, use of government housing, and compliance with National Park Service uniform standards (including a uniform allowance). Work may include on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift duties.
Motor vehicle use may be required; applicants must possess a valid, non-revoked, state‑issued driver's license and provide copies and driving record disclosures as outlined by agency policy.
The job is primarily sedentary with frequent standing, walking, and bending. Workers must lift and carry items up to 50 pounds on a routine basis. Tasks include extended periods of camping under primitive conditions and operating vehicles on rough roads.
Working ConditionsResponsibilities are performed both in an office setting and in the field, typically in isolated areas. Applicants should be familiar with outdoor safety and survival skills and capable of handling the environmental challenges of seasonal fieldwork.
