Purpose
These summer internship positions are funded under the Canada Summer Jobs program. Multiple internship positions are available in functions of administrative assistant and community development worker. To meet the site management needs at the affordable housing community and to serve our tenant population both practically and personally to provide inclusion, community and a sense of belonging while upholding the mission, vision and values of More Than A Roof.

Report to:
Building Manager/Supervisor

Full Time: 35 hours/week

Duration: 8 weeks contract over the summer

Duties & Responsibilities of the different internship positions
Administrative Assistant
Administration focused roles will focus on administration related to tenancy, documentation and records keeping.

Coordinate bookings of common rooms

Answer telephone & email inquiries

Maintain monthly up to date tenant list for Community Support and Emergency Responders

Community Development Worker
Liaison with the site administration & community support office.

Be aware of community resources that will aid tenants in personal & professional growth.

Facilitate and support community development and tenant interaction.

Foster and facilitate volunteer opportunities within the community.

Plan and execute community functions and events.

These are Canada Summer Jobs funded positions. Candidates must qualify under below criteria to be eligible to participate.

To be eligible, youth must:

Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period

Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment and

Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Working Conditions
MTR employees work closely with members in the vulnerable sector, both within our client base and with the general public. There may be exposure to abuse (verbal or physical), encounters with individuals in unsanitary conditions, and interactions with individuals experiencing emotional issues or vicarious trauma.
