This position is in addition to the role of Children and Youth Recreationsl Program Staff)
Placement: February 2026
Wage: $20.42/hour Head Program Staff ($19.36/hour Children and Youth Recreational Program Staff)
Hours: 20 hours per week.
Shifts: Head Program Staff – Children’s Programs :
Sunday 8:30 – 12:30pm, Monday: 7:45am – 11:45am
Children and Youth Recreational Program Staff:
Tuesday – Thursday 7:45am – 11:45am
The Head Program Staff will assist in the supervision of/participate in providing safe and enjoyable recreational programs for families and children ages 0-12 years of age. The range of programming includes (but is not limited to) Play Care (childminding), preschool programs, family activities (parents with young children), and school-age programs. Reporting to the Program Coordinator - Children and Youth Recreation, the Head Program Staff will be responsible for the safe and effective operation of the day-to-day activities in the above program settings.
This permanent part-time position is entitled to a YMCA-YWCA individual membership; 15 days vacation (prorated); and a cost-shared benefits package (after completion of the probationary period) which includes:

- YMCA Canada Pension Plan (eligible after two years of continuous service, if required hours are met)
- Ensure programs start and finish on time, and provide appropriate setup/take down as required.
- Ensure staff and volunteers provide consistent, high-quality program instruction and supervision.
- Ensure staff complete and maintain various required documentation.
- Ensure that equipment is safe and in good repair (report any malfunctions and remove any damaged equipment immediately).
- Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, volunteers and property by following YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all.
- Ensure Y Canada Initiatives are implemented and standards met, including Child Safeguarding and The Y Way.
- Direct delivery of programs and classes.
- Adhere to YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures.
- Minimum 3 months experience within Children’s Recreational Programs at the Y.
- Minimum 2-year experience leading children and youth programs.
- Experience teaching youth leadership programs is an asset.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR C required.
- A clear Police/RCMP Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
