MAKING AN IMPACT

The Canadian Cancer Society’s Camp Goodtimes provides children and youth affected by cancer and their families with an unforgettable overnight summer camp experience in a medically supervised, safe and supportive environment. We have been committed to providing a camping experience for children affected by cancer since 1985.

The Canadian Cancer Society believes that time spent at camp allows kids to just be kids, away from their diagnosis. Camp Goodtimes is proud to provide programming that gives joy, confidence, support, and hope for children with cancer and their families.

The Camper Experience Coordinator is responsible for camper care and skip and host development. He/She/They oversee the safety and well-being of every camper who comes to camp and provide assistance and support to skips and hosts in dealing with day-to-day camper situations. The camper experience coordinator communicates regularly with parents and guardians in a professional manner and coordinate responses to participants who require social-emotional and behavioural support.

This position is a member of the leadership team at camp and report directly to the Camp Director. They work as a team to build a positive camp culture and ensure the safety and overall well-being of camp participants. The leadership team is responsible for the planning and delivery of volunteer and program team training.

COMMITMENT:

  • May 8 – 9, 2026 – training at Loon Lake Lodge and Retreat Centre, Maple Ridge, BC
  • May 12 – June 26, 2026 pre camp office work at the Canadian Cancer Society office in Vancouver, BC
  • June 28 – August 2, 2026 – on-site living at camp for 6 sessions at Loon Lake Lodge and Retreat Centre, Maple Ridge, BC (at least 24 hours off each week). Meals and accommodation included.
  • August 8 – 27, 2026 – on-site living at camp for 4 sessions at Camp Pringle, Shawnigan Lake, BC (at least 24 hours off each week). Meals and accommodation included.
  • WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • Coordinates response to participants who require social-emotional and behavioural support including those with challenging behaviours.
  • Establishes relationships with Camp Goodtimes families to understand each participant’s camp experience and support their needs.
  • Facilitates a supportive experience for campers. Ensures campers have a coordinated response to individual needs that arise.
  • Liaises with health care professionals and social workers (onsite and offsite) as needed.
  • Manages all communications with families in a prompt manner.
  • Uses professional expertise to provide and recommend strategies and behavioural intervention techniques to staff and volunteers to best support Camp Goodtimes participants.
  • Works collaboratively with the Summer Program Director to deliver positive support to participants, staff and volunteers.
  • Provides expertise and perspective on appropriate program planning and implementation based on perceived needs of Camp Goodtimes participants.
  • Assists with volunteer training and orientation including Volunteer Assistant training before camp sessions begin.
  • Responds to general inquiries related to peer support.
  • Screens and places participants in cabin grouping as per age/gender.
  • Writes incident and participant reports as needed (discipline, disclosures, social behaviour, etc.) – reporting and follow up
