Position: Lead 3D Artist (12-Month Contract)

Blackbird Interactive is a creative‑fueled, future‑driven, independent game studio where the best talent in the industry can find long‑term careers to help grow their abilities while working on a wide range of projects, which encompass world‑class IPs as well as our own creations across multiple genres.

In 2022, we announced that our studio is implementing a four‑day work week as well as supporting in‑studio, remote within Canada, and hybrid work arrangements as permanent options to our employees.

Blackbird Interactive is looking for a Lead 3D Artist to join our team and continue developing a AAA Sci‑fi action title.

Working under the supervision of an Art Director
, you’ll be training and leading a diverse group of artists, within an existing IP, while maintaining and adapting an established art pipeline.

We’re looking for someone with previous experience leading an art team, with the ideal candidate having an excellent development sense, sophisticated pipeline and people skills, and ability to build content development gameplans.

In addition to leading others and providing feedback, this role will also require the ability to create 3D asset content and material work as a production artist.

We support remote and hybrid working arrangements across Canada (Vancouver, BC). At BBI, you’ll find a flexible, forward‑thinking environment where creative voices are valued and nurtured.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Art Director to train, manage and mentor the art team.
  • Provide hands‑on support to team learning and adapting to an existing art pipeline, in both asset creation and implementation.
  • Manage scope and provide detailed feedback for a range of artist sub‑disciplines. Foster a collaborative team environment that is creative and supportive.
  • Provide research and reference materials to help drive visual development of AAA quality assets.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of industry experience.
  • Experience leading art teams, in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Ability to work in proprietary game engine.
  • Ability to create 3D production assets (Zbrush, Maya) and Substance materials (Painter, Designer).
  • Effective communicator with an ability to work collaboratively cross‑discipline, experience with Art Directors
Pluses
  • You have a passion for science fiction.
  • You have experience with 3ds Max.
  • You have experience working on a live product
