Position: Assistant Director for a short Indie horror film

Role Description
The Assistant Director for this short indie horror film will support the Director and Producer in planning, organizing, and running the set on a day‑to‑day basis. This contract role is on‑site in Vancouver, BC, and involves creating and maintaining shooting schedules, coordinating call sheets, and ensuring that cast and crew are in the right place at the right time. The Assistant Director will manage daily production logistics, oversee set safety and adherence to production protocols, and help facilitate communication between departments.

Responsibilities include monitoring progress against the schedule, anticipating potential delays, and proposing solutions to keep the production on track. The role also involves assisting with blocking and rehearsals, managing background action, and supporting a professional, respectful, and efficient set environment.

Pay position with the daily honorarium as we are working under the ULB / Ubcp.

Shoe dates are August 21 - 23, 2026

Qualifications

Experience as an Assistant Director or in similar set management roles on short films, independent productions, or student projects.

Strong organizational and time‑management skills, including experience with creating and maintaining shooting schedules and call sheets.

Clear, calm communication skills and the ability to coordinate multiple departments and stakeholders under time pressure.

Working knowledge of set safety practices, basic production protocols, and local filming regulations and guidelines.

Ability to anticipate logistical challenges, troubleshoot issues quickly, and adapt plans while maintaining professionalism.

Comfort working on horror or genre projects, including scenes with special effects, practical effects, and potentially intense subject matter.

Availability for on‑site work in Vancouver, BC, for the duration of the contract and flexibility regarding evening or weekend shoots as required.

Familiarity with standard production documents and tools (e.g., call sheets, shot lists, script breakdowns; experience with scheduling software is an asset).

Collaborative attitude, respect for all cast and crew, and commitment to fostering an inclusive, harassment‑free work environment.

Formal training in film production or equivalent practical experience is beneficial, but not strictly required.
