Job Summary

We are seeking an Environment Modeling Supervisor to support our upcoming feature film. The Environment Modeling Supervisor works inside of NAS to lead the environment modeling team on a specific film or series, focusing on the creation of high‑quality environments, sets, and props that bring the world of the story to life. This role helps ensure that all environment assets are both artistically compelling and technically ready for Layout, Surfacing, FX, CFX, and Lighting, working within the direction and standards set by the Head of Environments and show leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the creation of 3D environments, sets, and props that align with the Production Designer’s and Art Director’s vision and the show’s visual style
  • Work closely with the Production Designer, Art Director (Environments), and Head of Environments to interpret design intent, scale, and level of detail, and ensure consistency across the world of the film
  • Lead environment modeling reviews and provide clear, specific, and constructive feedback on design fidelity, silhouette, proportion, structure, and overall quality
  • Ensure environment models meet technical requirements and pipeline standards so they integrate smoothly with Layout, Surfacing, FX, CFX, and Lighting
  • Collaborate with Technical Supervisors, TDs, and Production Technology to support and refine environment modeling tools, workflows, and asset libraries
  • Provide input to Production Management and department leadership on asset complexity and progress to support realistic planning and prioritization
  • Partner with Layout, Surfacing, FX, CFX, Characters, and Lighting to resolve design or technical issues and maintain alignment across departments
  • Mentor and support environment modelers, helping to identify training needs and contributing to performance feedback and skill development
  • Help foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative team culture where artists can do their best work
Qualifications
  • Significant experience as an Environment/Set/Prop Modeler in feature animation, VFX, or high‑end games/series, including time in a Lead or Supervisory role
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating excellence in environment and prop modeling (stylized and/or realistic), with clear understanding of design, form, scale, and composition
  • Proficiency in modeling tools such as Maya and sculpting tools such as ZBrush or Mudbox; experience with procedural or vegetation tools (e.g., Houdini, Speed Tree) is a plus
  • Strong understanding of how environments interact with Layout, Surfacing, FX, CFX, and Lighting within a production pipeline
  • Great communication and leadership skills, with the ability to give clear, constructive feedback and collaborate effectively across departments
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills

This role is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Hybrid Role (Minimum of 3 days a week in the office).
