NUVO magazine is a multiplatform media enterprise spanning print, digital, video, and live events, and

seeks a motivated and organized individual to join our team as editorial assistant. The position is

focused on the daily administration of the editorial department with opportunities for involvement in

content creation. The editorial assistant will work closely with the editors and be a part of the editorial

life of a magazine.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Support editors with their work in preparation for publication
  • Read drafts of articles as they come in and fact-check
  • Coordinate lists for distribution and otherwise
  • Write and build the weekly e-newsletter
  • Build (in Word Press), and publish stories for
  • Generate ideas for stories
  • Perform miscellaneous editorial tasks, from writing display copy to social copy
  • Attend to administrative tasks, including but not limited to: paperwork related to assignments, contracts, and payment
  • Verify usability and assist in sourcing images for use in stories
  • Write stories as needed
  • Amplify social reach
  • Engage with partners to ensure stories are placed in larger relevant digital arena
  • Appropriately design online stories and social media content and prep for upload
  • Coordinate editorial admin logistics (schedule meetings, create status sheets, update pitch document, create new folders on the server, create editorial contact sheet, create editorial budget sheet, etc.)
Qualifications:
  • Work experience in an editorial capacity is an asset but not required
  • Solid editorial judgement and ethics
  • Fluent on all social media and digital platforms
  • Ability to tell stories in multimedia formats
  • A high level of accuracy, organization, and creativity while maintaining attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with a range of editors, designers, and photographers within an expanding organization
  • Comfortable using standard photo-editing tools and software
