Job Description
The Commercial Real Estate Banking (CREB) team provides financial expertise and advisory services to commercial developers, private Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), investment funds, and national and regional developers across multi‑family, office, industrial, and hospitality sectors.
This role is responsible for delivering strategic advice and tailored financial solutions to complex Global Commercial Banking clients and prospects. The Sr. Relationship Manager will serve as a trusted advisor, responsible for acquiring, developing, and maintaining profitable client relationships, while collaborating with internal partners to deliver comprehensive banking solutions.
The role also requires a strong understanding of the bank’s products and services to identify cross‑selling opportunities and enhance overall client satisfaction.
The successful candidate will act as the primary client contact, responsible for marketing and delivering both credit and non‑credit banking services to developers, homebuilders, and real estate firms across major markets in Western Canada and the United States.
Key services include project financing for commercial real estate construction, acquisitions, renovations, and other interim financing needs, across asset classes such as condominiums, income‑producing office, retail, multi‑family, and industrial properties.
Responsibilities- Manage a portfolio of complex clients and prospects (annual revenues ranging from $50MM to $2B), supporting their borrowing, investment, and cash management needs
- Acquire, deepen, and maintain profitable client relationships through proactive business development and client engagement
- Serve as the primary relationship manager and trusted advisor, delivering customized financial solutions aligned with client objectives
- Structure and deliver credit solutions, including preparing high‑quality credit presentations, exercising sound credit judgment, and optimizing risk‑adjusted returns
- Negotiate and execute loan commitments and agreements, ensuring adherence to terms and conditions and managing pre‑funding requirements
- Monitor portfolio performance and take appropriate action to address risks or issues as needed
- Analyze financial statements and cash flow to assess client performance and industry trends
- Collaborate with internal partners across Investment Banking, Foreign Exchange, Treasury Management, Merchant Services, and Wealth Management to deliver integrated solutions
- Facilitate client access to Product Specialists and support cross‑selling of relevant products, including deposits, lending, and ancillary banking services
- Lead strategic client discussions on industry trends, capital structures, and broader business considerations
- Stay informed on evolving market conditions, industry developments, and changes in sales practices
- Participate in and lead ad hoc projects and initiatives as required
- 10+ years of experience in commercial banking, corporate banking, or real estate finance, with a strong track record of managing complex client relationships
- Undergraduate degree required: majors in business, finance or economics preferred
- Deep expertise in commercial real estate lending, including construction, acquisition, and structured financing
- Strong business development capabilities with demonstrated success in driving revenue growth
- Advanced financial analysis and credit structuring skills
- Proven leadership and stakeholder management capabilities, with experience influencing senior internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and effectively
- Strong risk management mindset and sound judgment in decision‑making
- Post‑graduate degree or designation preferred
- Experience working with developers, REITs, and real estate investment funds
- Familiarity with Canadian and U.S. real estate markets
