Guest Service Specialist, Port Operations
Start Date: Training starts in mid April 2026
Work Hours: Seasonal, Part-time (20-30 hours/week), schedule is based on cruise ship days
Rotating Shifts are between 7:00am - 11:00am and 8:00am - 5:00pm (Day Storage Shifts)
Location: Downtown Vancouver
Wages: $18.35 per hour + commission =
Average Earnings of $24.29/hour
As a Guest Service Specialist, your main responsibility is to assist cruise passengers as they arrive at the Port of Vancouver by guiding them to the correct tours and accurately managing luggage tagging, storage, and transfers. You will provide clear directions, answer guest questions, and help maintain smooth guest flow during busy cruise operations. This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, eligibility for Marine Transport Security Clearance, and the ability to safely lift, carry, and move luggage of various sizes.
Availability to work the full cruise season (May–September) is required.
- Welcoming and assisting cruise ship passengers at the Port of Vancouver cruise ship terminal
- Supporting daily operations of the Luggage Storage program within the cruise terminal
- Accurately tagging, organizing, and tracking stored luggage to prevent loss or misplacement
- Working on cruise ship days throughout the full cruise season in a fast-paced and high‑pressure environment
- Selling and booking our Hop‑On Hop‑Off tour, guided sightseeing tours + attractions through a handheld point of sale (POS) system
- Being guest focused and sales driven, working to meet and exceed sales targets and guest expectations
- Providing exceptional guest service at all times, ensuring smooth interactions and creating meaningful connections with cruise passengers
- Professionally addressing guest complaints or concerns, escalating to Supervisor when necessary
- Keeping up to date with operational updates and communicating relevant information amongst team members
- Proactively recommending experiences to guests, helping to drive additional sales while maintaining focus on service excellence
- You have strong guest service skills and ability to efficiently manage high volumes of guests in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment
- You have experience working in a sales and guest service environment, ideally in cruise operations or tourism
- You have the ability to safely lift, carry, and move luggage of various sizes and weights
- You must be eligible for the Marine Transport Security Clearance.
- You have strong knowledge of Downtown Vancouver and surrounding areas, including key attractions and experiences
- You have familiarity with POS systems. Proficiency with credit card is an asset
- You are a quick learner with a professional and positive attitude
- Able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- You have familiarity with online booking engines. Proficiency with credit card is an asset
- You have the flexibility to accommodate a changing schedule, available to work any day of the week including weekends and holidays throughout the full cruise season
- You can work well both independently with minimum direction, and as part of a team
- You are fluent in English, written and oral. Ability to speak a second language is a bonus.
