Position OverviewUnder the direction of the HR Director and guidance of the Director of Operations, the Employee Relations Specialist supports the administration and interpretation of collective agreements and company policies for both unionized and non-unionized employees. They ensure fair and consistent application of policies while maintaining compliance with employment standards and labour laws to promote healthy employer/employee relations.
This is an exempt, FT position based in Vancouver. M-F 9:00-5:00 pm
Key Responsibilities- Handles grievances and employee disciplinary performance by documenting, tracking, and coordinating resolutions in line with company policies and agreements.
- Guides managers and employees on contract interpretation, disciplinary actions, attendance management, and performance management processes.
- Monitors changes in federal and provincial labour laws and employment standards, providing recommendations for policy updates.
- Supports collective bargaining preparation by conducting research, compiling data, and assisting in proposal development.
- Develops and delivers training to enhance managers’ and employees’ understanding of labour policies and practices.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with union partners, addressing concerns proactively to prevent disputes and ensuring open communication, collaboration, and constructive problem-solving.
- Supports other Human Resources functions as needed by integrating holistic employee well-being throughout the employee lifecycle to ensure smooth department operations, collaboration and a balanced approach to employment relations.

- Degree in Business, Human Resources, Labour Relations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 2-4 years of experience in labour and employee relations within a unionized environment in Canada.
- Solid understanding and experience of both unionized and non-unionized employment relations, including grievance handling, contract administration, workplace investigations, collective agreement negotiations, performance management, and employment legislation within Canada.
- Exposure to employee investigations, workplace conflict resolution, and policy interpretation for both hourly and salaried employees.
- Knowledge of the Canada Shipping Act and associated regulations is preferred.
- Experience working in a multi-jurisdictional organization is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Must be legally allowed to work in Canada

- Estimated Salary Range: $75,000 – $95,000 per year
- The actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, skills, qualifications, and the position’s location, while ensuring alignment with internal equity and pay fairness standards.
