The opportunity
The district is recruiting for the position of senior labour relations advisor to join our labour relations team within our employee services division. Reporting to the manager – labour relations, you will provide expert advice and support to district leadership staff, including school based leaders, on a cadre of labour relations matters including collective agreement interpretation, grievances and employee discipline for all unionized groups and exempt staff.

In this role, you will organize and conduct grievance meetings, employee misconduct investigations, participate in labour/management committee meetings and collective bargaining, conduct workplace bullying and harassment investigations, as well as research in preparation for mediation and arbitration hearings.

Your strong advocacy, collaboration and written communication skills are imperative for conveying information clearly both internally and with external stakeholders on labour relations matters, potentially of which are contentious. You possess the ability to deal with confidential and sensitive issues objectively and to use your problem-solving skills to address and resolve often complex and ambiguous circumstances. Your organisational ability allows you to effectively manage and prioritize assigned files.

You hold a university degree in a related discipline such as in human resources or labour relations. Your experience will ideally have been gained in a highly unionized, multi-union public sector environment with 5 years of progressively responsible position in labour relations or human resources.

This position is currently 100% in-person at the vsb education centre at 1580 west broadway, vancouver.

Compensation
The compensation package will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The salary range for the position is $106,502 - $125,297 and a competitive benefits package and paid time off. Further details can be provided through the recruitment and selection process.
