Residential Route Supervisor

Position OverviewWCS is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Residential Route Supervisor (RRS) to lead and supervise waste and recycling pick-up operations in West Vancouver, Lion’s Bay and the North Shore. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing daily service delivery, ensuring compliance with company policies and municipal requirements, and leading a team of drivers in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
As an RRS, you will foster a culture of positive leadership, coordinate with municipal partners, and work closely with the WCS team to uphold our high service standards. This role requires a hands-on approach to managing staff, optimizing routes, addressing customer concerns, and ensuring operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and Supervise Collection Team
Effectively supervise and motivate a team of drivers, swampers & dispatcher to ensure the safe, timely, and efficient completion of daily waste and recycling collection services. - Ensure Safety Compliance and Workplace Cleanliness
Promote and maintain a clean and safe work environment by enforcing WCS safety protocols. Ensure all team members comply with occupational health and safety regulations and take corrective action as required. - Optimize Route Scheduling and Operational Efficiency
Review and adjust collection routes regularly to improve service efficiency, reduce fuel and labour costs, and ensure compliance with service level agreements. Collaborate with dispatch and route planning teams to make data-driven decisions. - Monitor Service Delivery and Conduct Route Observations
Perform in-field route audits and observations to ensure high standards of customer service, safe driving behaviour, and compliance with company procedures. Provide real-time coaching and feedback to drivers. - Customer Service Resolution
Address and resolve customer inquiries, service issues, and complaints in a professional, courteous, and timely manner. Document all interactions and escalate unresolved matters appropriately. - Daily Communication with Municipal Partners
Serve as the primary point of contact for municipal representatives. Communicate daily to confirm service completion, share updates, and proactively manage and resolve any challenges impacting service delivery. - Manage Timekeeping, Documentation, and Compliance
Oversee driver attendance and punctuality. Approve payroll, review route sheets and disposal tickets, and ensure accurate documentation of exceptions, delays, or non-compliance issues. - Incident Management and Reporting
Respond promptly to accidents or injuries. Complete detailed reports, conduct investigations, and manage follow-up including workers’ compensation, vehicle damage, and root-cause analysis to prevent recurrence. - Employee Development, Coaching, and Discipline
Conduct regular performance evaluations, monitor attendance, and apply progressive discipline where necessary. Support employee development through coaching, mentorship, and clear expectations. - Lead Team Meetings and Promote Culture
Facilitate regular driver meetings to promote team morale, reinforce customer service standards, and cultivate a culture of accountability, pride, and service excellence. - Data Reporting and KPI Monitoring
Track and report on key performance indicators (missed pickups, complaints, overtime hours, etc.) and use findings to drive continuous improvement - Support Onboarding and Training
Participate in onboarding of new drivers and ensure they receive adequate training in safety, service expectations, and municipal requirements.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a fast-paced, operational environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, resolve conflicts, and provide constructive feedback.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven commitment to exceptional customer service and operational excellence.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with database programs or CRM systems (UKG is an asset).
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (Class 3 is an asset) and clean driving record.
