At the Vancouver Convention Centre, a division of BC Pavilion Corporation (Pav Co), we work to create unforgettable moments, world-class experiences and stronger connections to community, industry and culture.

As British Columbia’s flagship convention centre, we host more than 500 events each year and welcomes hundreds of thousands of global attendees to premier conferences, trade shows, banquets and more.

The Vancouver Convention Centre is hiring an Assistant General Manager (AGM) to provide leadership to one of the world’s most celebrated event venues. As a double LEED Platinum certified facility, this iconic landmark requires an exceptional leader to help drive our continued excellence and innovation.

Reporting to the General Manager (GM), the AGM plays a pivotal role in driving the operational and financial performance of the Convention Centre. This executive leader ensures the venue consistently delivers high-quality results, maximizing economic impact for the province of BC while reinforcing Vancouver’s reputation as a premier destination for national and international conventions, trade and consumer shows, and major events.

This role blends strategic leadership with hands‑on operational oversight. The AGM leads a high‑performing team of leaders ensuring our guests, clients and team members enjoy an exceptional experience. Working closely with our supplier partners and stakeholders, this role ensures our service delivery remains best in class.

What You Will Do:
  • Partner with the GM to set strategic direction and oversee day‑to‑day operations.
  • Drive operational efficiency while protecting the Centre’s competitive advantage and world‑class standards.
  • Identify growth opportunities and implement initiatives that strengthen overall performance.
  • Develop and mentor venue leaders, building a cohesive and positive high‑performing management team.
  • Champion engagement, talent development, and progressive people practices aligned with organizational values.
  • Collaborate closely with corporate shared service teams to ensure seamless enterprise‑wide delivery.
  • Provide executive oversight for event planning and execution strategies.
  • Elevate guest and client experience through innovation, measurement, and continuous improvement.
  • Champion high industry service standards across all teams and third‑party partners.
  • Remove service barriers and proactively enhance value for clients and attendees.
  • Contribute to the long‑term strategic plan that guides the Centre’s growth and market leadership.
  • Support pricing and service strategies aligned with market conditions and client expectations.
  • Serve as a member of Pav Co’s Senior Leadership Team and act as a second in command to the GM.
What You Will Bring:
  • 10–15 years of progressive leadership experience at a seasoned venue, in hospitality, or event operations.
  • Known track record of leading teams in complex, high‑volume environments.
  • University degree in Business Management, Commerce, or related field.
  • MBA or other postgraduate degree considered an asset.
  • Experience in convention centres, major events, hospitality, or similarly complex environments.
  • Strong financial acumen with accountability for P&L performance.
  • Experience leading and engaging a large workforce.
  • Experience supporting inclusive workplace practices.
  • Expertise in contract development and partnership negotiations.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Exposure to a regulatory and/or government environment is an asset.
  • A strategic thinker who can translate vision into operational excellence.
  • Passionate about delivering exceptional guest experiences at scale.
  • Comfortable representing the organization publicly and sharing best practices on industry stages.

If you are an accomplished venue or event operations leader ready to shape the future of a globally recognized destination, we invite you to apply.
