Zurich Canada is looking for a strategic and inspiring leader to drive profitable growth across our West Region. As VP Middle Market – West Region, you will lead our underwriting teams in Alberta and British Columbia, guiding them to deliver outstanding results and customer experience. This position reports to the Head of Middle Market Canada. This role will be based in BC or AB.
This leadership role will be responsible for developing and driving the success of our Middle Market book of business across the West Region. We are looking for a leader that will drive and cultivate broker/customer relationships while developing and driving the strategy. We are looking for a leader that will exercise strong P&C underwriting knowledge, take an influential approach to business relationships and lead our underwriting managers and can build a profitable portfolio and strategic relationships, externally and internally.
Success in this role requires a strong commitment to teamwork, communication, vision, and results-oriented execution. S/he must be a collaborative individual with a passion and capability for creating successful teams, developing our underwriting talent and future leaders. They must have the ability to influence, build, drive and cultivate relationships. Responsibilities
Achieve key performance targets and financial budgets for the underwriting region in line with set objectives.
Contribute to growth objectives, aligned with the underwriting /business strategy.
Develop a team of leaders and underwriters for success in the market.
Analyze and support new and renewal business within delegated authority levels.
Review underwriting process and policies to ensure they are in line with strategic business objectives.
Manage relationships with key stakeholders to identify opportunities for service improvement to ensure commercial viability and customer satisfaction.
Oversee development plans for underwriters to ensure the capability exists and demonstrates bench strength to drive business results.
Recommend and implement action plans with our broker partners for profitable growth results.
Support the organization's strong underwriting, sales and service culture.
Contribute to building a strong culture; implement and lead change initiatives.
Qualifications
Job Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and 12 or more years of experience in Underwriting, Market Facing and/or Risk Management roles within the Commercial Insurance industry
5 or more years of people management experience
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced knowledge and practice of Middle Market Property & Casualty lines.
Established broker relationships across the West region, Canada
Strong knowledge and experience related to the following:
Strategic planning and execution experience
People leadership
Team building, organizational skills and experience over a portfolio
Relationship, presentation skills, negotiation and leadership skills
Risk selection and assessment
P&C insurance industry operations and processes
Underwriting philosophy, techniques, regulations and guidelines
Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. The salary range provided is a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable range of compensation for roles.
Compensation may exceed the range listed based on the evaluation of skillset and experience. The starting salary range for this position is $180,000 - $220,000.
