Position: Director, Housing (Fraser Region)

Overview

The Director of Housing (Fraser Region) is responsible for directing and coordinating housing programs for Coast Mental Health in the Fraser Region, setting direction for the Division, and directing the operation of Managers (exempt staff) who provide a wide range of supportive, supported, enhanced, and independent housing programs. The Director sets the direction for the department in the Fraser Region and collaborates with the Programs Leadership Team, including the Director of Housing for the Vancouver Coastal Region, to uphold organizational excellence, advance mental health care through housing, and increase impact through continuous improvement and growth.

Reporting

  • Reports to the Senior Executive (Chief level)
  • Member of the Senior Leadership Team
  • Sits on key internal committees and working groups
  • Oversees excluded staff at CMH sites in the Fraser Region

Key responsibilities

  • Ensures that operations are managed and operated in accordance with Coast’s Mission, Vision, Values, Policies and Procedures
  • Strives toward achieving Best Practice Standards for area of responsibility
  • Ensures that site operations are in accordance with all relevant legislation
  • Ensures that service and support are provided in accordance with the principles and philosophies of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery and trauma-informed care

Leadership

  • Develops a vision and operational plans for the Division consistent with Coast’s Strategic Plan
  • Identifies, assesses and informs others of internal and external issues that affect this program area
  • Sets direction and fosters effective teamwork
  • Acts as a Coast representative on behalf of this area of responsibility
  • Represents the program area at community activities to enhance the organization's community profile
  • Communicates with stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the community served by the organization
  • Establishes good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, local politicians and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization

Operational Planning and Management

  • Develops and implements an operational plan that incorporates goals and objectives contributing to the strategic direction of the organization
  • Ensures that the operation of the division meets the expectations of funders and other regulatory bodies, including BC Housing, Accreditation Canada, and various Health Authorities
  • Oversees the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the department
  • Drafts policies for approval and develops new standards; prepares procedures to implement departmental policies, reviews existing policies on an annual basis, and recommends changes as appropriate
  • Ensures that files are securely stored and privacy/confidentiality is maintained
  • Establishes partnerships with Education Institutions for the placement of practicum students

Program Planning and Management

  • Develops and implements overall program goals
  • Oversees the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Division’s programs and services in accordance with Coast’s strategic plans; provides continuity between sites and different client types
  • Ensures that the programs and services offered by the Division contribute to the organization's mission and reflect the priorities of the Society
  • Monitors day-to-day delivery of the programs and services to maintain or improve quality
  • Oversees the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects, e.g. review of medication practices and BC Housing Operational Reviews
  • Acts as a member of the Accreditation Committee as assigned

Program Development

  • Researches funding sources and assists in proposals for new initiatives
  • Responds to Expressions of Interest or Requests for Proposals from Health Authorities, BC Housing, municipalities, and other organizations; supports other program areas by developing and submitting proposals which increase the funds of the organization and the number of programs
