PositionSummary
Total Life is seeking a high-impact, hands-on Head of Finance & Strategy based in Canada to serve as the lead architect of our financial health and operational growth. Reporting to the leadership team, you will act as the bridge between our mission-driven operations and our corporate growth strategy.
We are not looking for a traditional "back-office" manager. We need a builder who can wear multiple hats—someone who understands that in a modern health-tech company, finance is a data and systems problem. You will be responsible for the full spectrum of financial functions, from "owning the books" to building the technical infrastructure that ensures every clinical session translates into sustainable revenue.
Requirements/ What You’ll Own
- You won’t just use our tools; you will build the "financial nervous system." You’ll lead the integration between clinical data, CRM, and accounting software (using Zapier, APIs, or no-code tools) to eliminate manual entry.
- Own end-to-end financial operations, including bookkeeping, month-end close, and financial reporting, with a focus on building scalable, repeatable processes.
- Lead the strategic oversight of our Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) team. You will partner with internal teams and vendors to build real-time dashboards for billing, collections, and cash flow optimization.
- Monitor and manage costs across the business; build models to track burn, unit economics, margins, and ROI to guide the Dev and Launch teams.
- Identify and manage grants, subsidies, and non-dilutive financing. Support fundraising efforts including debt, venture financing, SAFEs, and strategic funding programs.
- Partner with operations, clinical, and leadership teams to translate financial data into actionable technical or operational insights.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and scenario modeling to support growth and strategic decision-making.
- Support fundraising and structured financing efforts, including debt, venture financing, SAFEs, and strategic funding programs.
- Manage relationships with external partners (RCM vendors, accountants, auditors, banks, grant administrators).
- Ensure compliance with healthcare, reimbursement, and financial reporting requirements.
Requirements
Qualifications / What We’re Looking For- 5–10+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or FP&A, ideally in healthcare, health tech, or high growth startup environment.
- You have a "builder" mindset. You are comfortable with (or eager to learn) modern tech stacks, automation tools (Zapier/Airtable), and data visualization (SQL/Tableau/BI).
- A strong bookkeeping and accounting foundation is non-negotiable; you must be comfortable owning the books while simultaneously building the systems to automate them.
- Hands-on experience with RCM, healthcare billing, or insurance-based revenue models (Medicare/Medicaid) is strongly preferred.
- Advanced Excel/financial modeling skills with the ability to build complex scenario models from scratch.
- Proven experience managing costs and building financial discipline in a resource-constrained startup environment.
- A clear communicator who can translate complex financial and technical data for non-finance stakeholders.
- Professional Designation: CPA, CFA, or MBA.
