Health Quality BC provides system-wide leadership to efforts designed to improve the quality of health care in British Columbia. Through collaborative partnerships with health authorities, patients, and those working within the health care system, we promote and inform a provincially-coordinated, patient-centred approach to quality.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director is responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of activities related to the strategic direction and operations of Health Quality BC. The Director provides leadership in the development Health Quality BC’s operations, analytics and evaluation functions, and oversees a diverse portfolio of varying size and scope in a complex and changing multidisciplinary environment.
The role collaborates with the senior leadership team, provincial partners, and with other managers and directors to effectively lead, coordinate and manage organization‑wide strategies and initiatives.
- Leads and manages the development and implementation of Health Quality BC’s operational and strategic plans in partnership with senior leadership, ensuring alignment with health system strategies and goals
- Provides leadership and support for operational planning across the organization, including effectively communicating and reporting to key partners on Health Quality BC’s impact and progress toward achieving strategic goals
- Directs and oversees strategic and operational management of corporate services in the areas of privacy, security, finance, human resources, facilities, information technology, analytics and evaluation, and other business support services
- Provides expertise and makes recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Directors and Executive Medical Director on opportunities for strategic and cultural alignment across the organization
- Provides visionary leadership to staff through mentoring and fostering an atmosphere to promote and encourage employees to realize their maximum potential and growth. Oversees aspects of human resource management within designated portfolio including performance assessments, appraisals, resolving conflicts, recruiting staff as well as management of consultant contracts including assessing proposals, awarding contracts, monitoring and evaluating performance.
- Sets priorities and monitors progress in achieving objectives within the portfolio.
- Develops networks and builds alliances, engages in cross-functional activities; collaborates across boundaries, and finds common ground with a wide range of interested parties including vendors, government agencies, and other health authorities. Utilizes contacts to build and strengthen internal and external support bases.
- Develops and monitors an annual budget within designated portfolio. Responsibilities include monitoring budget performance, planning and adjusting deliverables to meet annual targets, approving expenditures and preparing summaries for fiscal reporting. Liaises with representatives of finance in addition to the Chief Executive Officer, on budget matters.
