Position: Health and Safety (EHS) (FIeld Based)

ERM is hiring a Health and Safety (EHS) Director to support our key clients’ advanced exploration program in the Yukon, Canada
. The role will operate as a de facto on-site EHS leader, responsible for the implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of EHS Management System (EHSMS), while driving a positive and proactive safety culture across a remote field camp environment.
The successful candidate will bring a strong operational mindset, enabling immediate impact through hands-on leadership, coaching, and system execution. This role is critical to ensuring safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible exploration activities aligned with our commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.
This is a full-time (40+ hours per week) limited-term with a duration of 3 months, extendable.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the on-site implementation of EHSMS, ensuring alignment with defined structure, roles, and governance expectations.
  • Translate EHSMS framework elements (risk management, operational control, monitoring, and improvement) into practical site-level execution.
  • Ensure EHS roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities are clearly communicated and understood across employees and contractors.
  • Establish and maintain effective site-level governance rhythm (daily/weekly engagement, monthly reviews).
  • Serve as the senior EHS presence on site, providing real-time guidance, coaching, and leadership to a workforce of ~30–50 personnel.
  • Support frontline workers and contractors through field engagement, mentoring, and reinforcement of safe work practices.
  • Promote a culture of visible leadership, psychological safety, and active worker participation in EHS programs.
  • Support hazard identification, risk assessment, and control verification processes for exploration activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Yukon regulatory requirements, permits, and contractual obligations.
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory expectations and ensure controls are implemented and verified in the field.
  • Oversee identification and management of key EHS risks, including environmental aspects (spill prevention, water stewardship, wildlife interactions).
  • Ensure proper documentation, recordkeeping, and compliance tracking are maintained.
  • Provide EHS oversight on of contractors and subcontractors performing work at site.
  • Support onboarding, orientation, and competency assurance for all personnel.
  • Ensure consistent application of site procedures, standards, and emergency response requirements.
  • Monitor leading and lagging EHS performance indicators and communicate trends to leadership.
  • Lead incident reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, and learning processes.
  • Facilitate corrective and preventive action tracking and closure.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the EHSMS.
  • Interface with site leadership, corporate teams, and external stakeholders as required.
  • Support engagement expectations related to communities and Indigenous Peoples where applicable.
  • Reinforce values of trust, transparency, and respect in all interactions.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive EHS experience in mining, exploration, construction or heavy industry
  • Demonstrated experience in remote camp operations and rotational roles considered an asset
  • Experience implementing or operating within ISO-aligned management systems (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001) considered an asset
  • Proven ability to lead EHS programs in exploration or project development environments
  • Strong understanding of Canadian and Yukon EHS regulatory frameworks
  • Practical experience with risk assessment, hazard identification, and critical control management
  • Ability to translate management system requirements into field-ready practices
  • Demonstrated leadership presence and ability to influence at all levels of an organization
  • Strong communication and coaching skills, particularly in frontline environments
