Summary of Responsibilities

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Director of Resource Development is responsible for leading the Resource Development Team and overall strategic fundraising initiatives at BGC including donor engagement, stewardship, sponsorships and partnerships, as well as carrying an account portfolio.

As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Resource Development participates in short and long-range planning and ensures that Resource Development activities are conducted in accordance with BGC’s strategic directives and annual objectives.

  • Job Duties

    Strategic Fundraising

  • Lead the Resource Development Team, balancing strategic and operational aspects of fundraising related to BGC’s Strategic Framework and Implementation Planning.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead the Resource Development Team, fostering a collaborative, inclusive and high-performance environment.
  • In collaboration with the President & CEO, develop and implement a comprehensive resource development strategy, including annual plans, targets and performance tracking which strategically grow and diversify BGC’s revenue streams.
  • Stay informed of key trends in fund development, fundraising, donor behavior and enabling technologies, identifying relevant opportunities and challenges.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and partners to deliver strategic initiatives including special events, annual campaigns, grants management, solicitation of individual, corporate and foundation donors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Donor Engagement & Stewardship

  • Oversee the implementation of giving programs that provide personalized and impactful experiences through outreach, communications, proposals, impact reports, stewardship and recognition.
  • Oversee the integrity and accuracy of donor database management and tax receipting, ensuring reliable reporting and compliance with CRA standards.
  • Sponsorships & Partnerships

  • Spearhead efforts to prospect and cultivate relationships with partners that align with BGC’s mission and values.
  • Oversee sponsorships and partnerships programs, including development, pitching, negotiation, activation and relationship management with partners that deliver mutual value.
  • Requirements

  • Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is an asset.
  • Proven track record managing a diverse fundraising portfolio, including securing major gifts, grants, and sponsorships.
  • Knowledge of fundraising management, federal and provincial legislation affecting charities, special events planning and management, of the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy’s Ethical Fundraising and Financial Accountability Code.
  • Understands ethical behaviour and business practices and ensures own behaviour and the behaviour of others are consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others.
  • Exceptional influencing, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong, effective communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of donors to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively influence others and work effectively to set goals and achieve results.
  • Excellent organization skills including setting priorities determining urgency, monitoring, tracking and attention to detail.
  • Strong financial acumen, including ability to develop, manage and report on fundraising plans.
  • Proficiency in fundraising software, Microsoft Office, and digital fundraising platforms.
