Position Summary
Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver is seeking a highly organized, people-oriented, and committed Bitachon / Security Volunteers Director to oversee and strengthen our community’s volunteer-based security capacity across British Columbia and possibly Western Canada. This role is central to building, managing, and sustaining a trained, engaged, and reliable volunteer corps that supports the safety of our community, institutions, programs, and events.

This individual will manage all operational aspects of the Bitachon Volunteer Program, including recruitment, engagement, deployment, and training coordination. The role requires a strong understanding of community dynamics, attention to detail, and a passion for empowering volunteers to take an active role in community protection. The Bitachon / Security Volunteers Director will also be cross‑trained in the responsibilities of other security management team members and is expected to assist as needed in other areas of operations, including logistics, compliance, and event support.

Job Responsibilities

Volunteer Program Management

Lead all aspects of the Bitachon Volunteer Program, including recruitment, screening, onboarding, and retention of security volunteers.

Maintain accurate volunteer records, including availability, background checks, deployment history, and training status.

Coordinate regular communication and engagement with both site‑specific and general volunteer teams.

Organize volunteer appreciation initiatives to foster morale, recognition, and long‑term commitment.

Establish and manage connections with national Jewish volunteer security programs to align standards and share best practices.

Deployment & Operations

Coordinate volunteer deployment for events, holidays, and high‑risk periods, in collaboration with institutional partners (synagogues, schools, camps, etc.).

Respond to partner site requests for volunteer support and ensure appropriate volunteer presence and coverage.

Maintain real‑time oversight of volunteer participation and readiness.

Training & Development

Work with security leadership and Training Director to coordinate and deliver required volunteer training, refreshers, and scenario‑based drills.

Assist with planning and conducting Bitachon volunteer courses and certifications.

Monitor training participation and ensure that volunteers meet necessary readiness standards.

Incident Support & Reporting

Assist in handling, documenting, and reporting hate incidents, suspicious activity, or threatening communications.

Maintain confidential records and ensure that relevant updates are shared with senior leadership and law enforcement as needed.

Participate in debriefs following incidents or events involving volunteer deployment.

Cross‑Functional Support

Be cross‑trained in all other security team roles and provide operational backup during peak periods, incidents, or staff absences.

Assist with background checks, event security logistics, and coordination with external partners as required.

Be available to respond to emergency security calls.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in community safety, volunteer management, emergency preparedness, or a related field

Minimum 3–5 years of experience working with volunteers or in community‑based security or emergency response roles

Proven ability to manage and motivate volunteers with varying levels of experience and availability
