PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Coordinator, Volunteer Services, Student Placements and Community Engagement is responsible for planning, developing, recruiting, screening, orienting, supporting, coordinating, and evaluating volunteers and student placements for Louis Brier Home and Hospital and the Weinberg Residence.

The Coordinator develops and maintains a responsive volunteer and student placement program that supports the needs of residents, families, departments and the organization. The position works collaboratively with leaders, interdisciplinary teams, educational institutions, and community partners to create meaningful volunteer and student experiences that are consistent with LBHH&WR’s Mission, Vision, Values, person-centred care, trauma-informed practice, safety requirements, privacy expectations and Jewish traditions and values.

The Coordinator serves as an ambassador for Louis Brier Home and Hospital and Weinberg Residence within the Jewish community, educational sector, and broader community. The position cultivates relationships that support volunteer recruitment, student placements, workforce development, community engagement, and resident quality of life. The position proactively identifies opportunities to strengthen volunteer involvement and student learning experiences, supporting LBHH&WR as a preferred partner for community engagement, volunteerism, and healthcare education.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Recruits, interviews, screens and selects volunteers in accordance with organizational requirements, including reference checks, criminal record checks, immunization/TB screening and other onboarding requirements as applicable.
  • Consults with leaders, interdisciplinary teams and other stakeholders to determine organizational, departmental and program needs for volunteers; matches volunteer skills, interests and availability to identified needs.
  • Assigns, reassigns or concludes volunteer assignments when required, using sound judgment, respectful communication and appropriate documentation. Escalates concerns to the Director, Human Resources as needed.
  • Develops and evaluates volunteer programs and services, including goals, objectives, outcomes and methods of evaluation such as satisfaction surveys, needs analysis, partner feedback, performance feedback and exit surveys.
  • Plans, organizes and implements volunteer recognition initiatives, including appreciation events and other activities that recognize contribution, strengthen engagement and support a positive volunteer experience.
  • Promotes volunteer opportunities by presenting to schools, community groups, partner organizations and other external stakeholders to market the program and support recruitment.

Student Placements and Learning Partnerships

  • Coordinates student placement requests and supports the placement process in collaboration with educational institutions, instructors, preceptors, students, managers and interdisciplinary teams.
