Role Overview The Director, Philanthropy is a senior leader within the Foundation's fundraising team, advancing transformational philanthropy in support of Providence Health Care. This role integrates strategic leadership, principal and major gift fundraising, and team development to drive significant revenue growth and long-term donor engagement. Through a combination of vision, execution, and people leadership, the Director strengthens a high-performing culture of philanthropy, ensuring ambitious revenue targets are achieved while deepening meaningful relationships with donors, volunteers, and partners.
Key Responsibilities Partner with the Executive Director to shape and execute a comprehensive major gifts strategy aligned with annual and long-term fundraising priorities.
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing philanthropy team, establishing clear expectations, accountability measures, and a robust culture of collaboration and results.
Manage a personal portfolio of major and principal gift donors and prospects, advancing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to meet ambitious revenue targets.
Oversee portfolio and pipeline development across the team, ensuring strategic prospect assignment, disciplined moves management, and accurate data practices in Raiser's Edge NXT.
Lead complex gift planning conversations, including blended and planned giving opportunities, in alignment with donor goals and organizational priorities.
Partner closely with colleagues across stewardship, communications, and campaign teams to deliver integrated, donor-centered engagement strategies.
Engage and support volunteers, campaign leaders, and advisory groups to strengthen relationships and expand philanthropic reach and influence.
Monitor fundraising performance, pipeline health, and key metrics, using data and insights to inform strategy and drive continuous improvement.
Stay informed on philanthropic trends, market dynamics, and emerging opportunities to enhance fundraising effectiveness and innovation.
Participate in process improvement initiatives and perform additional related duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience Successful completion of a post secondary degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related discipline, required.
Recognized fundraising designation (e.g. CFRE) or equivalent professional credential preferred.
A minimum of 8 years of experience in philanthropy, with a proven track record of securing transformational and principal gifts; experience in healthcare philanthropy is preferred.
Proficiency with donor databases and CRM systems, preferably Raiser's Edge, as well as advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications.
Proven ability to secure and grow philanthropic revenue through strong donor relationship management and strategic engagement.
Completed and passed a criminal background check prior to commencing employment (as required for a successful candidate).
