About the Position
The Youth Worker provides group work, outreach and individual support services to immigrant and refugee youth. The Youth Worker is responsible for recruiting eligible youth and for planning and facilitation program content, as well as conducting administrative duties necessary for tracking program results.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, organize and facilitate weekly workshops, field trips, and outdoor recreation activities for immigrant youth between age 15-30 years old.
Guide youth on backcountry camping trips, leadership retreats, day hikes, and other outdoor recreation activities.
Facilitate youth to acquire wilderness survival skills.
Promote program, recruit participants, help with the registration process and answer public enquiries regarding the YLM program.
Offer youth mentorship and guidance throughout the program.
Create opportunities for group to connect and build sense of belonging.
Provide and maintain a safe environment that is culturally open and accessible in order to support the personal development of the youth.
Communicate with participants, parents, volunteers, vendors, and community partners in a professional manner about program updates.
Network with the community via social media and participate in related networking meetings.
Contribute towards program evaluation and improvement measures.
Coordinate logistics for cohorts of youth, including scheduling with vendors and purchasing supplies to support the program.
Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to assist in the implementation of daily program activities.
Share trends of service needs with the Program Manager and compile reports.
Maintain up-to-date group records and individual youth case notes.
Maintain statistical records for accountability, funding application and development purposes.
Attend team/division staff meetings and training opportunities as required.
Provide support to agency wide fundraising initiatives.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by Program Manager or Program Director.
Education, Training and Experience
Bachelor degree in Social Science, Human Services or related discipline preferred.
Training to support youth in camping trips is preferred (e.g., Leave no Trace and Wilderness First Aid).
2 years of experience working with multicultural and vulnerable youth.
Experience with public speaking, group presentations, and content development.
Knowledge on the needs of vulnerable youth and mental health support.
Hiking and camping experiences are an asset.

Additional Information
Staff will be expected to lead overnight trips including backcountry hiking experiences.
Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Check).
Standard First Aid Certification is an asset.
Food Safe Certificate is an asset.
Evening and/or weekend duties are required.
Travel between offices, workplace sites, networking events and scheduled program activities.
