Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland enables transformational mentoring relationships to inspire, ignite and unleash the power and potential of youth. Big Sisters core mentorship programs offer a safe space for self-identifying girls, non-binary, transgender and gender-diverse youth to work with caring mentors to realize their full potential. It takes just one stable, committed adult in a young person’s life to make a difference.
By matching youth with adult volunteers in quality one-to-one and group mentoring relationships, Big Sisters ensure girls and gender-diverse youth can access the support they need to thrive.
In Metro Vancouver, 1 in 3 children have no trusted adult to turn to. As a Big Sister mentor, you’ll be matched one-on-one with a girl or gender-diverse youth (ages 7‑17), show up weekly and build the kind of relationship that shapes a life in your area.
Responsibilities
Match with a young person (ages 7‑17) and commit to weekly one‑to‑one or group sessions.
Foster a safe, supportive environment to discuss personal topics, challenges, and goals.
Attend training sessions as provided.
Participate in community events, workshops, and volunteer meetings.

Qualifications
Interpersonal skills, problem solving.
English language proficiency.
Preferred: counseling skills.
Gender: female.
Commitment
2‑4 hours per week.
Minimum 1 year commitment.
Flexible activities chosen by you and your mentee.

Eligibility
19 years or older, identifies as a woman, non‑binary, transgender, or gender‑diverse individual.
Canadian resident for at least one year (or provide an International Criminal Records Check).
Driver’s Abstract required if you plan to drive your mentee.
