As a Consulting Senior Associate, Environmental
Scientist located in the Elk Valley region of British Columbia
, you play a critical role in helping senior team members to understand and address complex environmental challenges by collecting and compiling data. Your work supports the investigation, data collection and data compiling for assessing baseline environmental conditions, risk assessment and risk management, and environmental compliance projects for mining, energy and industrial sites. Your job contributes to risk reduction and regulatory compliance and helps advance ERM’s mission of shaping a more sustainable future.

What Your Impact Is

In this role, you will support multi-disciplinary programs including hydrogeological site investigations and environmental compliance monitoring across a variety of project sites. From collecting high quality field data, to assisting with groundwater flow assessments, aquatic effects monitoring, and wildlife monitoring, to contributing to technical documentation, your work will directly support high quality project delivery and innovative environmental solutions. You’ll also gain essential experience toward professional registration, building a strong foundation for long-term success in environmental consulting.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, biological sciences, hydrogeology, or geology (with hydrogeology courses).

  • Eligible for Biologist in Training, Engineer in Training (E.I.T.), or Geologist in Training (G.I.T.) registration in Alberta or British Columbia.

  • 1+ years of consulting experience, with strong enthusiasm for hands‑on field assignments.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including managing, organizing, and reviewing large datasets.

  • Experience preparing tables, figures, maps, and technical/ academic reports.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a consulting environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with high attention to detail in data recording and technical documentation.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to Health & Safety protocols.

  • Willingness and ability to travel up 70%+.

  • Willingness to participate in extended field rotations, including up to 2+ weeks at remote mining or oil sands sites, often in variable climate conditions.

  • Driver's License

    Required:

    This position requires a valid driver's license and good driving record with the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.

  • Ability to walk long distances and carry heavy field equipment in outdoor environments (sometimes on uneven terrain).

  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and perform effectively in a fast‑paced environment.

  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

  • Preferred

  • First Aid, AED & CPR certified (Standard/Intermediate)

  • Swift Water Rescue certified

  • Bear & Wildlife Safety Training

  • Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in extended field rotations, including up to 2+ weeks at remote sites, often in variable climate conditions.

  • Participate in field programs that may require travel to remote locations by truck, All Terrain Vehicle (ATV), or helicopter, depending on site conditions and project needs.
