As a Managing Technical Consultant, Fisheries Biologist (Fixed-Term) with ERM as a full-time, fixed-term (one year
for maternity coverage, with potential to transfer to regular full-time status) you’ll guide major, multimillion‑dollar projects, influence environmental outcomes at a national scale, and help drive the execution of ERM’s global strategy within a rapidly growing, world‑class Biodiversity & Ecosystems practice. This position can be located in one of ERM’s offices in Whitehorse, Yellowknife, Calgary, Saskatoon, Vancouver or Toronto

    What You’ll Bring

    Required

  • B.Sc. Fisheries Biology or a related discipline.

  • Registered Professional Biologist (or equivalent), or eligibility to obtain designation.

  • 4+ years of consulting experience in freshwater fish and fish habitat assessments, sampling, aquatic biology, and water quality programs.

  • Advanced written and oral communication skills, including technical reporting and permitting documentation.

  • Strong knowledge of federal, provincial, and territorial regulations relevant to mining and oil & gas.

  • Proven ability to manage deadlines in a fast‑paced environment, work independently with minimal supervision, and travel extensively.

  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and a strong commitment to safety.

  • Driver's License

    Required:

    This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.

  • Pleasure Craft Operator’s License.

  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

  • Preferred

  • M.Sc. in Fisheries Biology or a related discipline.

  • 6+ years of consulting experience in freshwater fish and fish habitat assessments, sampling, aquatic biology, and water quality programs.

  • Experience in hydrology, instream flow assessment, hydroacoustic/bathymetric assessment, and/or fish habitat offsetting.

  • Electrofishing certification, Intermediate First Aid, and/or Swiftwater Rescue Training.

  • Experience mentoring junior staff.

  • A positive, collaborative, self‑starter mindset aligned with ERM’s global mission.

  • Key Responsibilities

  • Design and lead fish and fish habitat field programs across freshwater systems in Canada.

  • Support planning, implementation, and monitoring of fisheries offsetting and compensation programs.

  • Compile, manage, analyze, and interpret fish community, biology, and habitat data; support database management.

  • Prepare technical documents including baseline studies, monitoring reports, impact assessments, permitting applications, and offsetting plans.

  • Actively contribute to ERM’s Canadian and international aquatics/fisheries technical communities.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior biologists and field technicians.

  • For the
    Managing Technical Consultant, Fisheries Biologist position, theanticipatedannual base pay is$95,651–$119,999(CAD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees arenot bonuseligible).
