Reporting directly to the Environmental Compliance Superintendent or their delegate, the Environmental Monitor is primarily responsible for compliance inspections, environmental monitoring programs and supporting site reporting requirements. A large majority of time spent in this position will be outdoors sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
Environmental Monitoring & Field Support
Conduct environmental monitoring during construction activities
Support water quality and in-stream monitoring programs
Assist with terrestrial and aquatic field programs, including bird surveys, vegetation assessments, and wildlife monitoring
Assist scientific specialists with field data collection and program execution
Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC)
Support the installation and maintenance of erosion and sediment control measures
Monitor and report on the effectiveness of ESC implementation
Sampling & Data Management
Collect environmental samples in accordance with established protocols
Process, pack, and ship samples to laboratories as required
Maintain accurate field notes and documentation
Enter field and laboratory data into the environmental database
Environmental Compliance & Site Support
Assist with spill prevention and spill response activities
Support recycling, waste sorting, and wastewater management programs
Ensure environmental commitments and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies are adhered to in all site activities
Team & Operational Support
Interact and communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team of environmental professionals, engineers, and contractors
Provide logistical support to the team and perform other related duties as required
Additional Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned by the employer.
The Ideal Candidate
Education / Qualifications
Training in construction or environmental monitoring programs or related discipline is considered an asset
Valid Level 1 First Aid Certificate is an asset
Valid Class 5 License
Experience / Skills
Computer skills are considered and asset (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Iso Metris, Eqwin)
Must be very safety conscious, reliable, self-starter and a team player
Ability to take clear, concise, and defensible field notes
Previous experience with environmental monitoring/sampling is highly desired
Experience with wilderness or outdoor activities is an asset
Experience with ATV, GPS, and snowmobile operating procedures are all highly desired
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Effective team player who can jump in wherever is needed
Strong interpersonal and reasoning skills, with proven problem-solving abilities
Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as with others
Work Location & Conditions
This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.
The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities.
Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation
The expected hourly range for this position is CA $30-35/hr, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer…
