Your knowledge and expertise in fisheries and aquatic science is critical for successful project delivery. As a Senior Aquatic Resource Specialist within a growing team, you will be part of Hatch’s Environment, People, and Place practice, providing a combination of technical expertise in your field of experience, key client relationship management, and guidance and mentoring to junior and intermediate colleagues. We collaborate and partner with clients, communities, rights holders, regulatory agencies, and Hatch’s engineering teams to solve our client’s most challenging problems.

- Lead and grow the revenue and profit of our existing environmental consulting practice with a focus on fisheries and aquatics
- Lead teams to deliver successful projects requiring Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) Fisheries Act Authorizations (including offsetting planning, design, and implementation), Canadian Navigable Waters Act applications, and Water Sustainability Act (WSA) approvals for Changes In and About a Stream. Experience in VFPA jurisdiction an asset
- Identify and develop environment, people, and place related business opportunities with new and existing clients working in the mining, energy, and infrastructure sectors
- Provide leadership, technical direction, peer review, and advice within our existing environmental consulting practice, focusing on fisheries and aquatics
- Coordinate key environmental deliverables on behalf of clients and projects
- Provide technical and quality review for client deliverables
- Participate in resource planning and mentorship and leadership of project teams
- Work collaboratively with integrated, multidisciplinary teams, liaising with and supporting global peers
- Recruit and develop Hatch’s next generation of environmental leaders
- Post‑secondary education in aquatic environmental sciences, marine or aquatic biology, and/or a related discipline
- 8‑15+ years of experience in managing and delivering fisheries and aquatics scopes on major mining, energy, and/or infrastructure projects
- In‑depth understanding of fisheries and aquatics impact assessment, permitting, and regulatory requirements across Canada and within British Columbia. As a global firm, experience in other jurisdictions would be a great asset!
- BC Registered Professional Biologist in good standing
- Demonstrated business development and client engagement experience
- Ability to lead, mentor, and inspire environmental teams, collaborate with peers and integrate with engineering teams
- Experience working on major EPCM projects
- Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally as work requires
- Strong entrepreneurial spirit with a focus on technical quality
- Skilled at managing internal and external stakeholders
- Clear communication style with the ability to plan, lead, and deliver best in class, high quality deliverables
Base salary range: $96,000 - $145,000
At Hatch, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. In accordance with legislated pay transparency requirements, the expected salary range for this position is based on current market data and aligned with internal pay structures to ensure consistency and fairness.
Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location.
