Schedule and Hours
This is a full time Vancouver based role, which involves working 6 days on/8 days off, onboard the train between Destinations in western Canada.
Purpose
Reporting to the Supervisor, Mechanical, the Onboard Mechanical Technician (OMT) is an integral member of the Operations and Mechanical team. The Onboard Mechanical Technician will be mainly responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all mechanical equipment and functionality of various systems on rail cars while on board.

Key Areas of Accountability
Represent the operations and mechanical department on board during our journeysLead maintenance and servicing of equipmentTroubleshoot, maintain, and repair rail car components interior and exteriorProvide timely, accurate reporting to team members and partnersSupport train movements of passenger rail equipment on site when requiredProvide leadership to workplace safety and security by role modeling appropriate behavior and enforcing safety rulesProvide coaching and guidance to other team members and contractorsSafety
Comply with Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR), General Operating Instructions (GOI), Federal Railroad Association (FRA), and all other safety policies, procedures, and rulesIdentify, protect, and report safety hazards to management and OH&S CommitteeMeet or exceed safety and security requirementsMaintain basic first aid level provided by the companyOperations
Support the successful execution of the Operating PlanSupport safe movement of rail equipmentExecute the company’s materials handling strategySupport operational and equipment availability requirementsSupport 5S Lean methodology to seek continuous improvement efficienciesThis position may require the ability to train for and perform switching dutiesMechanical
Read, understand, and interpret schematics, manuals and other instructions pertaining to equipmentHigh mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate equipment and hand toolsTrain for the use of equipment and hand toolsExecute a successful Maintenance ProgramEnsure completion of work orders maintaining brand standards, working collaboratively with team members and contractorsExecute mechanical and reliability requirementsQualifications
Education, Certification, Licenses
High School DiplomaFirst Aid Level 1 Certification is an assetRed Seal Trade Qualification is an assetValid Driver’s License is an assetQualification and/or proven knowledge in safe heavy equipment operations such as forklifts, cranes, etc.Qualification and/or proven knowledge in safe small hand tool handling such as grinders, drills, etc.Previous Qualification under CROR Operating Rules is an assetExperience/Skills
Railroad experience is an assetStrong coordination and organizational skillsHigh attention to detail with a desire to maintain brand standardsAble to take personal accountability, be adaptable, and be a problem solverFamiliarity & comfortability with computer applicationsGood communication and leadership skillsAble to work cross-functionallyWork Environment
