Job Overview
Reporting directly to the Water and Sewer Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing a variety of semi‑skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair and construction of the District’s water distribution and sewer collection systems.

We may consider an under‑implementation of this position, so we invite all interested applicants without all of the above qualifications to apply. If successful, a development plan will be created to achieve the necessary qualifications within a reasonable timeframe.

Illustrative Duties

Performs a variety of semi‑skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair and construction of the municipal water distribution and sewer collection systems.

Maintain and monitor records for pumps and pumping stations, meters, hydrants, control panels, alarm systems.

Performs sewer inspection system maintenance such as locating manholes and cleanouts.

Performs sewer video inspection system maintenance.

Performs servicing and maintenance tasks such as changing pumps, cleaning, repairing, replacing valves and ensuring hydrants are maintained to standards.

Inspects, maintains, repairs and reads water meters, exercises valve and performs uni‑directional flushing.

Performs pump station maintenance ensuring safety standards, equipment performance and operational procedures are met.

Maintains records associated with the completion of the assigned tasks.

Operates the necessary municipal vehicles, tools and heavy equipment.

Responds and deals with enquiries from the public.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of, and ability to comply with and follow all pertinent WorkSafeBC and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.

Knowledge of water distribution and sewer collection systems.

Ability to perform common water/sewer maintenance tasks and duties in a safe manner.

Ability to use relevant technical applications such as SCADA and working knowledge of local government software applications.

The ability to serve the public in a courteous manner.

The ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the supervisor, other employees, and the general public.

Maintain professional and technical requirements for the position. (I.e. maintain confined space, fall protection, fit testing and other safety certifications as required.)

Requirements

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent qualifications.

Three (3) years diverse experience in water/sewer operations and/or a related field acceptable to the Employer or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Level 1 EOCP operator certification for water distribution and/or sewer collection.

A current valid class 5 BC Driver’s License with air endorsement.

Current Traffic Control Certification.

Other

The incumbent must be physically fit and be able to work outside in all weather conditions.

The incumbent must maintain professional and technical qualifications for the position.

The incumbent must be available for emergency call‑out as required.

Participates in Emergency Operations Center (EOC) training and EOC duties as required.

In the event of an emergency/disaster participates in emergency duties as required.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Compensation
The hourly pay rate for this full‑time (8 hours per day), Monday to Friday position is $ (2026 rates).
