ResponsibilitiesOverall Purpose
The Elevator/Escalator Tradesperson is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, service and repair of all elevator and escalator operations within the Sky Train system. These duties are carried out with adherence to all codes governing the safe operation of all elevator and escalator equipment (notably C.S.A. B44 standards).
- Works within policies generally defined by the Company including priorities set by the Elevator/Escalator Supervisor.
- Completes assigned duties to Company standards and all applicable codes using approved work practices and procedures.
- Makes inspections and performs maintenance, service and repair work required on elevator and escalator equipment within the Sky Train system.
- Signs off work as being completed after the equipment has been deemed safe and fit to operate within the standards of all applicable codes.
- Completes all documentation in a clear and detailed manner, in compliance with company policies and procedures, and any applicable codes.
- Conducts work activities in a manner safe to the individual, fellow workers and the general public.
- Attends technical and safety training to continually upgrade skills.
- Handles emergencies and failures in accordance with established procedures through immediate response and quick action.
- When carrying a pager, responds to calls by phone and/or makes a site visit if required.
- Performs related duties as assigned, such being items of a minor nature which do not affect the value of the job.
As per WorkSafeBC regulations, this job requires an annual fit test and may necessitate the use of a respirator. In either case, the employee must be clean shaven. Any exemption requests should be raised to Occupational Health and/or Labour Relations for consideration.
QualificationsEducation
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- A valid Elevator/Escalator Mechanics certificate or equivalent.
Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of the maintenance and repair of elevators and escalators.
Other
- Valid class 5 BC driver’s licence.
An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.
Work Schedule40 hours per week.
Work DesignationResident – This position works predominately on-site.
Rate of PayWage: $65.83 per hour. All new employees will be subject to a 6-week trainee rate at 75% of the hourly rate with the remainder of the first year at 90% of the hourly rate.
