Position: Instructor for Electrical Project Leadership 1

Vancouver Community College is recruiting an instructor for a new 15-hour course:
Electrical Project Leadership1 (Chargehand B/ small crewleadership). We’relooking for a Red Seal Electrician in BC with recent field leadership experience (charge hand/foreperson/lead) and a strong passion for mentorship and training.

The course is practical and scenario-based—designed to help new supervisors make sound field decisions and build strong habits, rather than “covering content.” Key areas include: supervisory responsibilities and escalation; crew alignment and coaching; safety leadership (tailboards, checklists, lock-out procedures); short-horizon planning/scheduling and time management; clear communication and documentation (daily logs/progress updates); introductory digital tools; and basic site layout reading and red-lining.

  • Facilitate a 15-hour course using provided applied scenarios, short practice activities, and job-relevant tools/templates.
  • Model effective crew leadership: aligning daily goals, coaching, feedback, and mentorship culture.
  • Teach safe work leadership practices (tailboards, checklists, critical safety procedures).
  • Teach basic planning/scheduling and time management for balancing tool work with supervision.
  • Support learners to read and use simple site plans and mark up/red-line changes to communicate field updates.
  • Provide learner feedback aligned to course outcomes and practical workplace expectations.
Required Qualifications
  • Red Seal Electrician (Construction Electrician) recognized in BC.
  • Recent leadership/supervisory experience on electrical projects (e.g., charge hand, foreperson, lead hand, site supervisor).
  • Strong safety orientation and ability to teach safe work leadership routines.
  • Excellent communication skills, including documentation habits (daily logs/progress updates).
  • Comfort using basic digital tools (tablet/phone) for typical supervision tasks.
  • Clear commitment to training, mentorship, and learner development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Adult education/teaching/training experience (formal or informal), apprenticeship mentoring, toolbox talks.
  • Experience coordinating with other trades and interpreting basic drawings/site plans.
  • Field Safety Representative (FSR) certified.

Salary: $106.32/hr x 15 teaching hours
