About Us

Join the award-winning team at Fossil Landscape Construction, where we care for some of Vancouver’s most beautiful and complex outdoor spaces. For more than twenty years, we’ve been building and maintaining high‑end residential landscapes across Vancouver, West Vancouver, Whistler, and Bowen Island. Our team of professionals is dedicated to craftsmanship, collaboration, and delivering the highest standards of quality and client satisfaction.

About

the Role

We’re looking for a motivated and experienced individual to join our Landscape Maintenance Team as a Lead Hand – the second in command on our maintenance crews. This role is perfect for a hands‑on professional with strong leadership skills who enjoys mentoring team members and helping oversee daily operations. At Fossil, you’ll have the opportunity to guide and develop crew members, coordinate tasks, and help drive the success of our landscape projects.

We provide ongoing training, support, and a clear path for advancement for those looking to grow their career in landscape horticulture.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Planning

  • Lead and supervise the maintenance crew in the absence of a Crew Leader to deliver exceptional quality and efficiency on all assigned properties
  • Aid the Crew Leader in planning daily operations, delegating tasks, and ensuring work is completed within scheduled time‑frames
  • Support the Crew Leader in the training of crew members, ensuring Fossil’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) are followed

Maintenance Operations

  • Perform pruning, weeding, lawn care, hedging, irrigation and lighting repairs, planting, and garden renovations
  • Clean and maintain hardscape areas, patios, and custom features
  • In coordination with the Crew Leader, maintain equipment and tools; ensure trucks are organized and ready for each day’s work
  • Work collaboratively with teammates and supervisors to deliver consistent results and ensure every property looks its best after each visit

Safety & Administration

  • Promote a safe, professional work environment in line with company policies and ensuring maintenance standards are upheld at all times
  • In absence of the Crew Leader, track attendance, crew hours, and project details accurately
What You Bring

Required

Skills and Experience:

  • 3+ years of landscape maintenance experience (preferred, but we’ll train the right person)
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to quality
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to safely operate powered equipment (line trimmers, mowers, blowers, etc.)
  • Commitment to safety — for yourself, your team, and the properties we maintain
  • Certification or coursework in horticulture, or progress toward Red Seal, is an asset
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive wages: $27–$32/hour based on experience
  • Annual bonus eligibility
  • Company‑matched group savings programs (RRSP, TFSA, and savings)
  • Comprehensive extended health benefits – dental, vision, prescriptions, life & disability insurance
  • Excellent training and professional development opportunities within a career‑oriented company culture
  • At least four company‑sponsored social events each year, including our annual Yaletown Christmas party
