Equipment OperatorWe are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Equipment Operator to join our construction team. You will be responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery to prepare sites, move materials, and assist in the structural phases of our projects.
The Equipment Operator will support the lead Construction Supervisor and Civil Construction Supervisor in the execution of daily tasks while maintaining a rigorous commitment to site safety and organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely and efficiently operate excavators, backhoes, directional drills, cable plows, tractors, and skid steers.
- Execute trenching, grading, and leveling according to survey stakes and blueprints.
- Move and place heavy structural components (beams, trusses, stone) to assist the carpentry and utility crews.
- Perform daily pre-trip inspections, grease joints, and report mechanical issues immediately.
- Maintain a clean work zone and use spotters when operating in tight spaces or near utilities.
- Interprets verbal and non-verbal communication (including hand signals) from operators, ground personnel, and swampers.
- Complete Field-Level Hazard Assessment (FLHA) to identify existing and/or potential hazards prior to operating on work sites.
Technical Skills:
- Comfortable operating on adverse terrain, in winter operations, and/or near other equipment and power lines.
- Able to operate in crowded, fast-paced working environments.
- Ability to read site plans.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in operating heavy equipment, such as excavators, backhoes, directional drills, cable plows, tractors, and skid steers is preferred.
- A minimum of one year of experience performing tasks such as building access roads, stripping, shading, grading, trenching, boring support, back filling and clean-up.
- Experience operating an excavator or other heavy equipment on steep slopes and with winch equipment is preferred.
- Class G license (required) with AZ or CDL licenses as an asset.
