Accounting Specialist

Our client is a respected public-sector organization committed to serving the local community through accessible and impactful programs and services. They are seeking an Accounting Specialist to join their Finance team and support a variety of accounting functions, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger transactions, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

Broad accounting responsibilities with exposure to payroll, AP, AR, reconciliations, and reporting.

Accounting Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Process semi-monthly payroll, including reviewing timesheets, resolving discrepancies, obtaining approvals, and coordinating payroll submission.
  • Serve as a point of contact for payroll-related questions from employees and external partners.
  • Process accounts payable invoices, verify coding and approvals, maintain vendor information, and ensure compliance with organizational policies.
  • Prepare invoices, track reimbursements, and reconcile receivable activity.
  • Record general ledger journal entries, including cash receipts, payroll transactions, and manual payments.
  • Perform account reconciliations, including reviewing bank deposits and cash receipts.
  • Prepare financial and payroll reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
  • Prepare year-end tax documents, including W-2s and 1099s.
  • Assist with financial reporting, budget preparation, audits, and other accounting projects as needed.
  • Provide accounting support and guidance to internal departments regarding finance policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3+ years of related accounting experience required; 5+ years preferred.
  • Experience with payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, spreadsheets, email, and accounting software.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to work with employees, vendors, and external partners.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling financial information.

Preferred

Skills:

  • Experience preparing financial reports and reconciliations.
  • Experience supporting audits, budgeting, or compliance reporting.
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze data from multiple sources.

$65,000 – $75,000
