Assistant Construction Manager (Contract)

The Assistant Construction Manager will support the Construction Project Manager, Project Manager, Site Manager, and/or EPC Project or Program Manager in the day-to-day execution of construction projects. This role is responsible for assisting with project safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontractors, suppliers, procurement, documentation, turnover, client coordination, and field-based activities required to successfully deliver EPC, construction management, and program management projects.
This position will support projects across a diverse range of industries including aviation, commercial building, electrical transmission & distribution, facilities, manufacturing, oil & gas, power generation, process, and water.
Key Responsibilities Project & Construction ManagementAssist with daily management of project safety, quality, schedule, cost control, and field execution activities.
Support development and implementation of project plans including:
Project Execution Plan
Quality Assurance Plan
Safety & Health Plan
Subcontracting Plan
Project Staffing Plan
Organization Chart
Procurement Plan
Develop site mobilization and demobilization plans and support execution in the field.
Secure and track required project permits and regulatory approvals.
Assist with onboarding of craft labor and field supervision personnel.
Support preparation of Requests for Proposal (RFPs), scopes of work, bid evaluations, and contractor selection.
Assist with negotiation, execution, and administration of prime contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and change orders.
Execute downstream contract administration including RFIs, submittals, change management, claims mitigation, and meeting documentation.
Support verification of subcontractor and supplier insurance, licensing, bonds, taxes, and compliance requirements.
Support project cost reporting, forecasting, scheduling, work breakdown structures, and field progress tracking.
Prepare project status reports covering risks, schedule, cost, and cash flow for internal and external stakeholders.
Assist with earned value analysis, labor productivity tracking, and unit rate forecasting.
Support invoicing processes for prime contracts, subcontractors, suppliers, and client contractors.
Adhere to company safety programs, policies, and training requirements.
Support and participate in project safety, quality, progress, and financial audits.
Collaborate with Superintendents and Site Managers to ensure subcontractor compliance with contract requirements, safety standards, quality expectations, and schedules.
Assist in maintaining compliance with company policies, procedures, labor agreements, and applicable regulations.
Analyze composite crew rates, labor burdens, and equipment costs.
Support staffing coordination with field operations and craft HR teams.
Maintain accurate craft classifications, progression records, and training compliance.
Assist with development and administration of project labor agreements as required.
Manage construction equipment inventory to ensure adequate availability for project execution.
Facilitate project turnover documentation, record retention, warranty coordination, and closeout activities.
Support materials receiving, inventory control, storage, and logistics processes.
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction, Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant construction experience
OR Equivalent applicable experience in lieu of a degree.Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).
Experience with document control, scheduling, cost control, and project management systems preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced construction environment.
Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Ability to meet company driving requirements.
